decided the 242 needed to grow some tesitcles so i did these upgrades....
the new exhaust is fabricated by me, it is all stainless, and manderal. i wanted to go over axle but when i got all the parts i just couldn't get it to work out with out a lift... maybe if the everything was at a comfortable level and i wasn't on my back it would work out but nahhh...
btw all the welding is tig welding.
arp stainless exhaust studs, ported 90+, and my good old 63 t3....
ported turbo exit to be 2.5" to match inside of vband

here is a pic of the downpipe....
vbands are mighty sexy

That's beautiful work, man. Your cost is very much in the ball park. The MVP exhaust was $750
black powder coated aluminized pipe with Carsound cat and Magnaflow cylinder muffler. The
down pipe was silver Jet Hot coated. But to have stainless for the same price with the flexpipe and V band clamps is great. Looks fantastic!
Make sure you also ported the wastegate because with the reduction in pressure from the exhaust it can cause boost creep with the internal wastegate. You can make the hole in the turbine housing
larger and also machine the inside of the wastegate housing for the exhaust to make the bend
easier and also machine a groove so the flapper can open just a bit wider.
Enjoy the power,

with those long azz exhaust studs how'd you manage to squeeze the turbo/mani in there? with my 60/63 and stock length studs I need to have someone pull the motor towards the drivers side with all their might just to clear the inner fender.

getting the turbo in and out of my car sucks....
it sucked with stock studs too..
especially with poly engine mounts. cause i cant physically move the engine by hand any more...
i have to remove a few studs to get it in and out but thats ok because they have allen cap inserts at the end so inserting and removing them is easy as pie....
i didn't port my waste gate... im hoping to get a little boost creep...
if its an issue ill come up with something different

how are you goin to do the hangers now that your running a flex pipe? ive been thinking about trying one of those, might make the vibrations from the hangers a bit better.
looks great, im sure you will be plenty happy

in the last pic u can see some hangers i made.
i used some stainless tubing with big stainless washers at the end to hook up to the mid point....
im gonna use some big orings for the back...

Looks great Ben. I'm a DP flange adapter (or 3" DP from lostartof/frostburner) and some SS mandrel bends away from having my 3" SS system done. Did that V-band adapter on your wastegate come from ATP Turbo? Have a part number on it by chance?

hey blu92in99,
here is a link to the item you speak of, it's not cheap, coming in at $60, but it's nice.
T3 V-Band Adapter 2.5" to 3" (http://www.atpturbo.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=ATP-FLS-030&Category_Code=FLS)
here is a link to their flanges page to look at all the other flanges, adapters and what not.
ATP Turbo - Steel Flanges (http://www.atpturbo.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=tp&Category_Code=FLS)
it'll get a pricey kinda quick, mostly in haveing to buy 2 V-band flanges($16.85ea.) at a time for every section you want. then you need to buy the V-band clamp($15.95ea) for each merge. But, I will admit that once i get a job, and have it steady, I will probably be looking into a full V-band clamped exhaust system. Alot of the reasoning is because you eliminate the use of those confounded gasket things that leak, but a V-band can leak a little too, just gotta build the exhaust system nice and keep the weight off the clamps.
Matt.

To easily remove and install the turbo on a 240 series. Unbolt the lower mounting bolts for the motor mount bracket on the crossmember. Then jack up the motor till it's about vertical. Now you just made lots of room to easily install the turbo. Be careful of the fan shroud and wiring but usually I just unscrew the fan shroud and let it hang on the fan. Once you have the turbo and oil lines installed you can lower the motor mount back into position and install everything else.
Enjoy the road,

Matt. Thanks Matt. I'm familiar with ATP's stuff (I buy lots of goodies from them), I just wanted to make sure that was the one. :)
...and $60 is cheaper than some of the alternatives. Besides, you gotta pay to play, right?

Speaking of the alternatives...has anyone had any experience with the T3 wastegate/DP assemblies from www.40bob.com?
links to pics of his stuff:

He wants $90 shipped for one, with core exchange. If that'll fit our T3's, I'd definitely go that route instead of the adapter from ATP. Much easier to breathe...

Can we get a little spell check with that exhaust? :-P
I can't tell from the pictures, but did you make a solid bracket from the bell housing to the downpipe? You don't want it just hanging off the turbo...those studs will still find a way to bite you yet. ;-)

wait a sec ... 2.5" flange fits on these turbos? then how is it that no other 3 bolt 2.5 flange works(we have been having to use 2.25 flanges on downpipes) maybe its just the old t3's are a little larger
anyways looks killer ... there was a shop in cali i used to go to that sold the vband clamp and both sides for like $25, i've been trying to save up enough to get 3 of them so i can do my exhaust right. anyways pimp setup ... damn i need to get my hands on a tig welder

Check with local turbo shops.
The one near me [well, in Detroit] sells stuff on the cheap. Turbo to manifold gaskets are $2 each, take off holsets are $100 when they have them, and so on. I have found alot of interesting things, just driving around the area.
Nice work Ben. $750 seems more reasonable. I was under the impression that it was $750 for just the tubing for the one car. My mistak.

yeah 2.5 works.
if you look at it 2.25 is the minimum part of the cone...
it goes to 2.75 i think

hm crazy ... tho good to know, but to bad none of the 2.5 3 bolt flanges i can get will fit any of the turbos i have to make downpipes w/ the larger flange but eh ...
gonna be going to a big housing FWD turbo so flat flange w/ 4" downpipe for me haha
tho damn you need to make and sell those exhausts as i know a few people would buy them that pretty
da-ymn! thats some nice work. i'm sure it'll perform like you want it to. any under axle problems that you see coming up?
oh yeah, da-ymn!
