So that we can attach a tow rope and pull him round the course faster than his car can do it under its own power

:-( not enough power indeed .

well , all im saying is that its free , and if one of you dont accept it , somebody else will get it , griz is turning up anyway , so hell probably have it .

it means your car can sit in the paddock with all the other racers .

got my finalised entry list also , erm , im the only volvo .

ive also managed to have the smallest engine size apart from a subaru imprezza , so you can guess what sort of cars im up against , err AM v8 , F355 ,40Z , 911 .

gonna be a giant killing day .

If it's one of the 3 or 4 I can think of then everybody there will be toast!!

ok results are in ,

LAST place , pipped by a BMW M5 by 0.5 second - he couldnt get out the place quick enough !!!

Much of the entry was astons , altho most were actually well prepared to a high standard , and running tyres of List B - ie modified class - which i couldnt run , but they could so hey ho .

anyway , it was a brill experience , it took for ever to get round the corners , and the short straights were just blips of wheelspin in 2nd gear , altho down the main straight , i clocked 84 mph - i think the ferrari F355 trapped 91mph - so i had the power just no means of putting in down thro normal sqaushy shocks and altho lowered springs , it handled like a ****ing boat .

Had a couple of guys who came up and said they were impressed with the speed , and the cornering attitude , and thought it was the most fun theyd seen in a while.

even better was the commentator who had to apologise for the supermarket comments when i put my last time in !!

anyway most times are here , note the 3rd run is actually the first timed one to count , and i actually went quicker that the BMW guys - so was oping for some more rain , but , it didnt go that way - digest at your leisure

vehicle
BMW M3 70.13 , 69.99 , 71.34 , 70.48
porsche 911 C4 68.79 , 66.87 , 66.49 , 66.85
BMW 328i 74.17 , 71.98 , 77.56 , 73.07
Dodge Viper 66.10 , 65.49 , 68.44 , 65.20 (class winner)
Subaru WRX 73.30 , 70.02 , 70.90 , 69.14
BMW 325i 76.11 , 72.96 , 73.13 , 72.26
BMW M5 rtd , 72.38 , 78.84 , 73.30
Volvo 740 77.26, 76.22 , 76.02 , 73.86

my second run , i completely knacked up , by locking a wheel , and running wide , 3rd run was wet , and managed a half decent time , the 4th run i tried to take the first turn flat in 3rd, but i had a little lift !!! but thats where quite a bit of time came from - so i could of gone faster on the day , but i was learning so , next time will be different !!

well , having got this email back from keith wilson , im sure to say , im the fastest 740 ever around curborough long course !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

David
Pleased you enjoyed it. I checked up on the results for the same meeting in 2002, same course and from what I rememeber it was dry. The Astons are superb but then I like old cars. In 2002 Andrew Sumner took his 740 Turbo, 231,000 miles on the clock but with sorted suspension (he now works for the Ford Motor Co in the diesel engine test cell sorting out Ford's new deisel engines).
His best time was 77.95 secs. The others were my 1958 PV544 (with all of 75 bhp at the wheels) 82.95, John Dando - 2 litre Amazon on 45 Webers and lsd 75.67, Ian Stainburn rally 1800 cc Amazon 82.20. So you now have a basis of comparison. I,d say you did well.
Hope to see you at Lotun Park
Keith

bring on lotun park !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ah, I've contacted Keith before regarding the VOC motorsport stuff. He also sold me my oil temp gauge. Seems like a nice guy...I keep meaning to get back to him regarding getting involved with some competitions.

cheers

Regardless, of your time for the day, It's great to see more volvos doing track work, etc.
You now have a baseline that you can compare your future events to as well.

I'd say its time to get the suspension sorted out and hopefully then go and have another go at the same track.
