Well I've heard mixed comments from people about a BOV on an automatic car. I've been told it would be silly and would go off all the time when I let off the gas while others say it would not. I'm just curious as to how a BOV would work with an automatic, cause if it would work fine and not act weird I'd like to eventually get one.
will work fine, but to make the sound you have to have a hard decel after a hard accel. so your passengers will be impressed by the sound, but annoyed at the jerk :-P

Cool, I guess I'll be investing in one next summer when I start doing performance work to the car and such. :-). Thanks

If it goes off all the time or not depends on how you adjust it, not on auto vs manual. It should work fine. You probably don't really NEED it though, because your car probably already has a CBV.
Hey, I see your birthday is Saturday, mine is on the 17th. Happy Bday! Are you getting any car stuff? Nobody gets me car stuff because they have no idea what to get, and it's not like a Honda that you can go to Wal-Mart and they have little "Honda" carbon fiber muffler keychain with an LED tip. Uggg rice... At least my dad knows what tools I need.

You don't need to decel hard, just let off the gas when the car is in boost and it releases. It will go off simply every time you are in boost and let off, the more boost, the louder it is, simple. You take off from a stop sign 3/4 throttle and then quivkly let off when boost is built, voila pshhh, you slowly go off the gas, no noise. Very very simple. Now if only it was that simple for mine to work darnit, the vacuum isn't pulling it open for some reason.

from personal experience a bov on a automatic works fine and it only blows off when ur on the gas hard and no it doesnt blow off all the time it can depending on what kind of bov you have or where it is set to blow off.i cant even get mine to blow off anymore unless im above 5000rpms but im only running like 3 psi cause of gas but even when i was running 15 psi it only blew off when i would let off the gas after being on the gas hard.

i've got one on my 850.
it just blows off whenever you close the throttle under boost, just like a manual. only difference is you're not closing the throttle every gear.
it'll blow off if you rev in neutral too. good for scaring the piss out of kids in hondas, did it to a few tonight.

our XC70 D5 and 850 T5 are both automatics (Boooooo... ;) but they give a pretty noticeable air relieving sound when letting the throttle go after a slughtly harder acceleration or when the turbo has spooled and you let of the gas (The D5). They don;t have realo BOVs though..
yeah, i didn't mean "hard decel", i meant when you let off the throttle hard, but the auto will try and slow the car down. sorry for the wrong choice of words

Make sure the hose nipple on the intake mani isn't plugged.
Mine did the same thing and was really pissing me off until I realised that's all it was.
$1 later I had a new brass nipple and my HKS was blowing off and making that lovely SSQV squeak.
My sister was inside our house and noticed the sound from me driving by.

I just put my BOV on :) As a few people well know I was compressor surging the hell out of the turbo before, now I've got a nice little "PSHHH".
And it would have the same results on an auto and a manual cuz it's not shifting gears, its on or off the gas and how much your into it. If I get just a bit into the gas and hold it there a bit you can hear the stock wastegate doing its thing a bit (its like a really light compressor surge noise), but much more than that my $40 BOV takes over. I got mine off of ebay, and it is a no name brand( Monza ), but it works. If I find out its leaking or whatever I will invest in something of better quality.
Get a BOV though, your turbo will be happier ;)

Well more results more reason to get it hehe. Im gettina "new" turbo in soon, a 15G so i might as well get the BOV now so I can have that installed with the turbo. Any suggestions for one for a 15G?

greddy type-s will handle all your boost stuff... they all do the same thing up to xx psi, if your going for mega high boost, then you need a bigger moving diaphram to relieve air buildup, in your case that 15g will probally see what, 18psi max? i did that much on my type S a number of times, always held rock solid, worked just fine...
And yes, i was an auto...
the RFL is just bloody annoying IMO...
