I am looking at Dave's 'calibrated' boost gauge face for the 740. The stock gauge needle sits at around 12 o'clock at rest/no vac or boost. Looking at the pic's of the faces on his site it looks like the rest position is around 11 o'clock. Has anyone installed one of these? Or is it just pictures playing tricks? Even compared to the pic with the stock face next to the 'calibrated' face the needle doesn't sit the same place. Also what's involved in installing the face? Is it similar to the IPD white-face kits?
Thanks!
BTW, not trying to step on toes if you read this Dave. Just curious from the group.

its a really easy swap. did it on my 90', kenny has that cluster now but all in all its really easy. he includes a nice set of directions that make life simple.
A+++ product and guy.
anyways the gauge doesn't sit @ 12 its a little to the left you'd just check out your stock one and fit it right on as the stock one sits
if you want i can send you the instructions that i have laying around if you want to read through it

I got the D Barton aftermarket boost guages on my 740 and I had trouble with the needle coming off, so I overlaid it on the factory guage and no problem. There is less light in that corner though, but works great. Yes the guage will be in the center until you start the car and it then reads the pounds of boost. let us know if you get the needle off. Also make sure you put the connections back in the same place.or you will have guage issues. I got the boost guage to work but knocked out a couple of guages including the speedometer. This is not to scare you off as I made a mistake in reconnecting. Good luck and keep us posted.

yea i got one in my car...dont use it anymore but did for a while...too small.
You pop the needle off to install the face and then pop it on at 0. Its not a whole gauge mind you its just the face with the numbers on it. make sure you dont smudge the numbers when putting the needle back on as the face is very fragile. i actually recommend just getting a new gauge.

Yeah, the needle changes position. You just reinstall the needle offset to the new zero at 11 rather than zero on the old face (0 at 12 o'clock). Pretty simple.

Cool eamon. That explains what I was seeing and what I needed to know. Might see about getting one as cheap is of the essence right now.

I have one. The first round had a problem with the backing peeling off due to sunlight, but the ones he sells now supposedly no longer have that problem. I had mine replaced for free after I contacted him regarding the problem.
I really like the way they work. I compared the accuracy of it against my autometer guage and they were within 1-2 psi at low boost and almost dead accurate past 5psi. I like how fast he shipped them too. I got mine in about 2 days, but keep in mind I am about 200 miles away.
I strongly suggest this guage face to you guys. It only works on 740's. Not 940's or 760's which have the boost guage in the tach? or is it the speedo? If you have the square shaped instrument cluster (has a voltmeter too) the face will work for you.
Just do a google for dave barton and you will find his site.

i'm running one also. good stuff. easy to install. clear directions. good communication during the sale. i used two super teeny tiny dots of glue from a hot glue gun to stick mine. it worked well, and does not obstruct the light.

Not me.... I'm pretty stuck on Volvos.
