Anyone have any idea how to do this?
I want to take them out so I can fit some non-volvo headrests in there (i need to measure the post width first), as these black foam/plastic/rubber ones are only comfy if you're using them with a ****ing race helmet...

There's a couple ways...at least on the first-gen ones that aren't shaped like the 7-series, although those MAY be the same. There's actually 2 little 'buttons' or tabs directly down from where the posts enter the seat back. Normally you can feel around a little without having to pull the upholstery back, and if the upholstery is in good shape, you ca press them through the back, and while holding them have a second person pull up lightly until you know both catches are free. Otherwise if the catches are broken or really stuck like one of mine was, you will have to pull the upholstery up from the bottom and go about it that way. The tab's should be 3-5" down from the top of the seat back iirc.

A much simpler solution is to purchase a pair of headrest inserts. I got a set of mint grey leather ones off ebay for 1.00 + 5.00 shipping.

They look like this:

Try an ebay search for "Volvo headrest" and also for "Volvo head rest". Same insert is used for the 700 & 200 series.

I've come across those in my (almost) daily eBay browsings.... If all else fails, I'll revert to them, but there's something about putting something in my car that just doesn't belong there that interests me :badboy:

plus, if i'm not mistaken, they're pretty hard to find in tricot and i much prefer cloth over vinyl.

however, thank you for the input =D

We've got cloth ones like that in our 740. Volvo stock ones anyway. I don't know if the 240 headrests are the same as the 740 (they look the same to me anyway), but they're a pain in the arse. Anyone in the back seat deciding to touch them and they fall out and get wedged between your back and the seat... not fun. Maybe I'll hot glue them in, lol.

i hope you know that you are not supoused to lean your head against the headrest, its meant to catch your head when you crash...

The 200 & 700 head rests I believe are not the same part, but the inserts are interchangeable.

The headrest inserts make a HUGE difference in comfort. Mine are black leather, but they might be vinyl...I don't really care as I've replaced the drivers seat anyway (w/non-volvo). ;-)

They're cheap and easy, so if those other headrests don't work out, go for the padded inserts.

i'm well aware. have you ever smacked your head on the stock 'rests? i, unfortunately, have. not fun.

i've heard about that, too.
