take her to look at volvos untill one is found that wasnt abused and neglected
= volvo driving girlfriend.
car is a 92 240 with 136k miles. cost 2K and needed new tires and a tune up. id say a sweet deal.
she is the one who detailed it. so any missed spots are not my fault. but id say she did a damn good job.

it would be 5k here in mass too.
some people are asking 7k for the exact same car.
and we found some people convinced their rusted out ****box 240s are worth $3500 non negotiable.

That is a HOT paintjob. Welcome to the club. My girlfriend didn't take any convincing. She's been obsessed with 240s for a long time and desperately wanted out of her Paseo. One day I got the dreaded "I bought a 240!" call.
"Its really great except for some ROD KNOCK whatever that means. The guy selling it said it wasn't a big deal."
Turns out the "rod knock" what a bad water pump and the rest of the car was cherry.

Why? :omg: are you sure you are on the right message board? if you have to ask why then perhaps you are ill equipped to comprehend the answer http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/tongue.gif

Excellent, the world needs many more young volvo-driving women!!! :-D
Her black 240 looks great!
My girlfriend is much the same, she has a '94 Ford Festiva - lots of little problems with it, it was a great car for most of the 3 years she had it, but in the end it was simply worn out and needed serious work.
She now drives an '85 240GLE.

NICE black 244! Reminds me of a black '93 245 that one of my mechanic's customers owns. It's in prestine condition, the paint was real nice except for a couple dents when the guy bought it about a year ago. He had it well rustpoofed by my mechanic and then had the dents removed and the car repainted about a month later. It looked even better after that, I couldn't believe it. It's one of the nicest stock 240s I've seen I think. Actually we convinced him to buy a set of 17" 5 spoke VOXX rims for last week. Looks SOOOOOO sweet. I think IPD bars are on order for it too. Haven't convinced him to lower it yet though  I hope your gf enjoys the 244!

I forced my girlfriend to take driving lessons in my 240, and it cost me a bumper, some front suspension parts and collision damage to my right front end :-P
Put servo (power steering, right, spelling?) in the car after that

Although my family always owned them, I became a hopeless Volvo Girl after my first b/f helped me buy and restore my 1971 164. Now I've added a 240 to my collection, as well as a new boyfriend, but he doesn't share the volvo obsession (yet). I'm thinking another restoration project (a P1800 or 140) might strengthen the relationship. Should I push for this, or just dump him? Can't be wasting my time on a non-Volvo lover, right?

Finally got my now wife all into Volvo, she's finally now sort of into performance and she's now smashin' on people in one of our volvos. Some tricked out new Nissan Sentra tried to race her yesterday that was trying to keep my wife from getting over in front of her after the light turned green and even with the AC Clutch Fan fully engaged, she tore that Nissan up like it was nothing, which is a pretty cool thing to witness. She's also developed some pretty mad skills, she can drive aggressive but is also very cautious at the same time. I was really proud of her coming back from Clearlake, she was really hangin' those mountain curves at some pretty impressive speeds but knew exactly what she was doing and what the car can do, which makes an impressive driver. She was also manually shifting the automatic using engine braking so she wasn't too hard on the brakes. She completely outhandled a Mercedes Benz C230 Kompressor that was really trying but just couldn't hang then she smashed on it in the passing lane. She knows what the car is capable of and appreciates it.

I could never afford to drive this car at that price.
This past week we completed a 2000 mile round trip from Marin County California to Orcas Island Washington in the 960. Gas priced varied between $2.15 to 2.50/gal for 87 octane. Average fuel economy was about 25mpg (high of 27mpg for 2 fill ups) Total cost was about $190 for round trip.
I don't care how comfortable the car is, 900 miles in 1 day is insane.

880 miles from Anacortes to San Rafael took 14 hours. Add another 3 hours for driving to the ferry terminal, waiting for the first ferry at 6:45AM, and the ferry ride.

Well, she's not my girlfriend, she's my wife.
Years ago, I had an '80 244GLA hand-me-down. It was a poorly maintained POS (Sorry, Dad). Cost me thru the nose to keep it running. I swore never again.
Then I got married. Wife wanted a 240. AAGH, no! But I gave in. Then I liked 'em again.
Wife now drives an '87 745T/M46. I have a 142, a couple 242s, couple 245's and a couple 244s.
