I remember seeing a diagram for a heat shield to go around a cone filter, however I have lost the link to the page and all my searches haven't turned up anything. Does anyone have that link, or possibly the diagram?

take a piece of cardboard and make a template... trim, fit... trim, fit... then make the real thing. That's what I did and I'm quite pleased with the results.

It's 6061 aluminum stock that I got from the Metal Superstore... good times, I love that place... I cut the main pieces on a shear at school, and fabricated some brackets to hold the whole thing together. As is, it's just riveted together. Any kind of other adjustment (ie. trimming and fitting) was done with a dremel tool. Being aluminum, this didn't take long...

Just as a quick tip, alloy will soak in a lot of heat from the engine bay, which takes away some of the point of the heat shield, but there is a reflective sheeting you can get that would worth while covering it with, should stop a lot of heat from building in the alloy.

agreed. I haven't gotten around to the heat-relfective tape yet... just like I haven't done anything this winter 'cause I'm broke!

I already made the heatshield from some aluminum that I had. I was thinking about painting the inside of the heatshield (where the filter is) a flat black while leaving the sides facing the engine polished. Would this help keep the filter cool?
