So this weekend I finally went ahead with my stereo project. This involves a Kenwood MP-4028 Head Unit(thanks to my bad ass roomates Dana and Amber for the bday present), Boston Acoustic FX65s(6.5) in the front doors, FX93s(6x9) in the rear deck and 2 Infinity Kappa Perfect 12" subs in sealed boxes. Powered by an Audiobahn A6004T(75X4 RMS) for the Boston Acoustics and an Audiobahn A8002T(200X2 RMS) for the subs.

I didn't get the idea to take pictures until a lot was already done, sorry for those that were interested more in the process. The amp shelves were basically 4 pieces of wood, carpeted, then screwed together, designed by Dana, mostly done by me with a little help where more than 2 hands were needed. The 6.5s didn't require much work. Had to make the cutout a little bigger, but depth was the same as factory so no fabrication required there. The square grills would not fit however, so I carpeted over the area to cover the holes for the original grill mounting posts.

The 6x9s for the rear are going to be a seperate project. The rear deck has cutouts, but they are square and things don't really fit right. Will need to tap into Dana's mastermind to figure out a solution to that.

I will update once we get the 6x9s completed. Until then, here are the current pictures.

Thats lookin good, at least the trunk is. Very space saving, and sexy. I think for the door panels, you should find some sort of plastic trim and put it all the way around the rectangular area thats not leather, to keep it lookin classy. Then just get some speaker mesh and do it like that. ORRR, point it towards the passenger seat a bit, since mids are directional, but that might be a bit harder.

Sweetness.

I am about to redesign my wife's 626 stereo. It has too much vocal in back and the tweeters are all harsh (aluminum tweeters suck) I am ditching the rear Pioneer 6x9s and putting in Advent 10" drivers crossed out at 2,000@6dB/octave. Front is getting Infinity 6x8 woofers to replace the pioneer 3-ways. 2 Dash top JBL tweeters are getting ditched for 4 Infinity silk domes above and below.
Different deck, too.

Looks nice, but 2 12's??!! Ive got one of the kappa perfect 12's in a sealed box, and onl;y driving it with 192 watts at 4 ohms (limited by the amp and I didnt get a DVC sub, but it hits hard, 2 must be crazy..though I do have a wagon, so im sure that helps.

Actually, downfaced subs tend to be a better bet, because you can port at the top, and that frequency of sound isnt directional, so it enhances the "feel" of it. but then those swanko laser cut grilles would be in vain.

haha, i was thinking the opposite. I was going to say he should have matched the speaker boxes to the stock carpet. But a black trunk carpet might look pretty cool.

Looks good, i had to wuss out and have my radio installed when i upgraded to a mp3 capable player in my old 944.

Well I uh...have a thing for bass. So yea, 2 12"s :) Downfiring would be nice, but there is no room for that. Also the Infinity subs are better in a sealed enclosure anyway, so ported would lose some of it's tightness. If you can see in the last pic, above the subs will eventually be the 6x9 magnets. So I can't have those boxes any higher. Which is also the reason they are black and not grey. I had a hard time finding boxes that would fit that small of an area, for 12" atleast. And I wasn't really in the mood to make them myself.

If you use them for true sub-bass, you need two 12s in a wagon. One will do OK if it's boomy, but not if it's clean and crossed out low. In a sedan I suppose one 12 is enough if it is designed properly, but like he said, he likes bass.
