What's the scoop on the LH fast idle valves? I'm tired of holding my foot at 1200RPM on initial startup.

I'm pretty sure I just want an on/off valve that I can use for cold idle only; but I suppose I could be talked into the PWM constant idle - the circuit (http://megasquirt.sourceforge.net/extra/pwmidle.html) doesn't look too bad.

LH fast idle valves are 3 wire, so you can't use 'em. Look for a 2 wire valve from a VW, BMW, etc. I just started tuning my PWM idle on my own car (Ford valve) and it's kind of, um... tricky! At least, the closed loop idle is...

Edit - oh yeah, the 650 is a tough part to find. I went with the 651, which is a 2 amp deal compared to the 650's 1.2 amp. MAKE SURE you check the current rating of the transistor you buy if you don't get a ZTX - there are crossovers that'll do the same thing, but the current rating is way out.

This is a two wire valve from an 89(?) 240:

Several people here have gotten them to work. I have upgraded the transistor and the resistor per the msefi instructions for the Ford two wire valve. Now I just need to rewire the valve to get it working.

Additionally, there is a diagram for wiring up a three wire valve to the standard MS output (not PWM)

^^^ I am going to try this setup on Ben's car soon. I will let you know how it goes :x:

thats great, thanks! I'll be trying that setup when it comes time.

Apologies. I thought we only got the 3 wire units.

Get a cold start valve from a kjet 240/740. It won't even need power to operate nearly perfect. The heat from the engine heats up some bimetal sheet, slowly closing the valve as temperature rises.

Works like a charm for me, just turn the key and start the car, I don't even have to give a little throttle. It starts right up and idles perfectly from then, even in -10-20' C.

The connector on the valve is for a heating element warming the bi-metal, reducing idle at semi-warmup conditions.

are you guys wanting idle valves for ac ect...or regular idle issues (cold weather ect)

For the bling :-P

For the bling :-P

yeah, it's more elegant to have the the fancy valve. but easier to just throw the bi-metal "dumb" bit on there until the people who are currently wrestling with the intricacies of getting the bosch fast idle valve to work well figure it out. unless you yourself have the time, energy, and wherewithal to jump in as well. :)

beyond the bling, though, running auxiliary stuff like a/c with a decent idle is nice.

I found the Kjet valve didn't flow enough air (open vs closed) for me; maybe I should try it again. I was really hoping to get something that would give me a 1500RPM idle for 30 seconds and then go away.

If PnP ever has another sale, I'll check out the two-wire bosch valve.
