RE: 2000 S80 T6

How do you get E-Code Headlamps?

How are they so much better than Original Equipment?

The local Volvo dealer doesn't sell them.

e-code is European code. Basically it's a different lense that "throws" light to different areas than the US ones do. Some states that have inspections may find them to be illegal (cause the're usually not DOT approved) But most people like them better.

There are a handful of states where e-codes are out of compliance (like Maine, where foglights are also illegal if your headlights are on!). But no one checks. All BMWs, Audis and Mercedes ship with Ecodes, and beginning with the 2001 S80, Volvos, too.

They focus most of the light below the horizon and onto the road, with a little bit thrown up and to the right for roadside hazard illumination.

The high beams are incredible.

The headlights on my S60 are that way. By far the best headlight pattern around. Throws alot of light down low on the road and out of other peoples eyes.

Now why couldn't all headlights be that way?
