First of all I started by painting the hood and roof and tailgate. Then I wetsanded them and let them air out for 3 weeks, then I sanded again and polished the scratches out. The finish is awesome, but my bodywork sucks. I went with the British Racing Green Metallic found on new mini's. I should get the sides painted in the next week or two (not as much body work as the roof)

Those pics are awesome! Are you doing all the painting stuff yourself? sounds pretty tuff. I'm kicking this crazy idea around in my head right now that involves repainting an entire 745. My dad and I test drove a Cooper S with that color, but that's a different story. BTW how did you change your title?:blabla:

Good luck

Ty

Change my title? Never crossed my mind. I'll just say it was a typo from Grey to Green.

That looks like a very nice job. What is your experience with painting on cars?

Great job on the paint! That's a unique color to have on a 240.
It's great to see these cars getting restored and customized.
Keep'em rolling!

Just as a suggestion you could try to get a 78-80 front grill to better complement the front flat hood. Your headlight doors are the 78-80 type but the grill is the 75-77 grill. I like the 78-80 flathood look best but they are all good. I just mean that FYI, I think the mixed look actually looks good, too. It's the detail thing in me.

pimp man.. I've been thinking of painting the 242 myself.. I know i'll end up painting the engine bay, trunk, and underbody, but I think i'll play it by ear, if it's easy then i'll giver a try...

I love those wheels too.. one of my faves.. can't wait to see the finished product!

Here are a few pics of it in the sun.

and Dave the reason I got that grille is because the grill that was with the headlights was broken, so I found this one on another car and took it, I kind of like the way it looks.

Also it is a GT under bumper spoiler fitted to a 84.5 and up bumper, but the grill headlights and hood are just off of an earlier 242.

I do have a couple of dillemas though. Most of my window trim clip pieces are broken and I cannot reattach my window trim, what do I do? Also where can I get new rubber seals for the wiper base?

Yeah, I like the look, it just isn't matched parts so I wanted to say something in case you didn't know. The rubber seals for the wiper base are only available new from Volvo. You should be able to find some nice used ones from a late model 240 in the salvage yard. The window trim design isn't the best. The only suggestion I know of is to use some type of glue or RTV. Personally, I don't like that design very much. To replace the trim clips you need to remove the windshield. If you are removing the windshield you may as well put in a 91-newer style that fits flush and has a nice black trim piece. Reduces the wind noise a bit, too.
The car is looking good man!

Can you post what steps you used in the paint finishing between coats etc?

I am interested in respraying my 745s roof. I just picked up a pretty big compressor a few months ago, and I figure my attempt can't hurt, since the roof is pretty messed up!

Killer wagon!

Oh, by the way on the wheels

In the pic, those don't look like the RWD MM11 wheel, they look like the FWD MM11^2 wheel for the later models [i had a set of each RWD and FWD before...]

Just wondering :)

No stripes for me.

They are FWD wheels, I only bought them because I got a steal, then I bought gil racing spacers, and overall I am very pleased with the package.

I didn't use a compressor when I sprayed, I used a turbine. If you use a compressor you are going to need very dry air. So you will most likely need a dryer.

Basically all I did was epoxy primer- wetsand- basecoat (in the sun to see coverage)- flash 30 min- move car in booth-1 tack coat clear-2 wetcoats clear- flash 15m- 2 more wetcoats clear - wetsand w/ 1000g next day- leave finish sanded for 7-30 days until smell is gone- wetsand again w/1500g- polish.

Looks great! You obviously know a bit about paint finishing. Something I have yet to master.
Can't wait to see the whole car done!
