View Full Version : Dizzy & 124 module Q's

Three q's, for some reason my searching finger isn't operating as well as it usually does:
-I've got a dizzy of unknown vintage (0 237 506 001), is there anything I should do to ensure it's of decent quality? The hall sensor works, as verified by John's injectors clicking, but are there any bearings or anything I should inspect for wear before I slap it in my hooptie?
-The MS-extra docs mention locked dizzys. We don't. I take it we don't need to worry about these?
-The 124 modules "aren't preferred". I haven't really heard any problems other than burning up coils when they leave the ignition on because of the lack of dwell control. Are there any other problems than this one?
Thanks,
-A

It should be good. Make sure you use a dust cover for the Hall Effect and make sure you seal the electrical connector at the dizzy as good as you can (factory boot and some electrical tape should work)

Those are mechanical dizzys (most with vacuum advance and some with boost retard.) Think k-jet.

I think the new Megatune versions will allow you to use dwell control for HEI modules. I am pretty sure it is the same code. (Using a 139 module myself)

That dizzy should be good. That style IS a locked dizzy, like Ben said above.
I used a 124 module for a whole year without a single problem, but I switched to 139 cause it was preffered. If you have a 124 and are too cheap to find a 139, use the 124. I used it without dwell control and had no probs. I have the specific wiring notes in my megamanual if you need them, I know the 124 and 139's are wired a little bit differently.
Really it's pretty darn simple to 'spark your ride. And if you encounter problems it's pretty darn simple to revert back to K-jet ignition. Something on the board changes between non-spark and spark, I want to say it's pin 25. You ground it when using plain MS (remember, at first we didn't ground this and it wouldn't start...) but to MSnS this runs to the dizzy trigger. Or something like that. So make that change easy with spade connectors so you can change back and forth easily if needed.
Yank out the old dizzy, plop in the new one. Wire up the module, it's quite simple. Either 5 or 6 is the trigger input. Shield it.
