It is usually sufficient to discharge yourself prior to working. Touching a grounded computer case, for instance, works fine. For what it's worth, I have been doing computers for over 10 years and have yet to personally fry anything with ESD. I know a few other long-time pro techs and they have told me the same thing. So I would say you should be "not very" worried.

I agree. $13 for a strap and cord is well worth the avoidance of latent defects of partially compromised componenets. In this present humidity, your chances are considerably lower, but it's a small price for assurance when having to trace those odd problems down the road, only to find you have a small burned circuit. Because you will not check that first, but everything else. Not speaking from ANY MSnS experience, just what I do 5 days a week.

In fiddling with other electronics, just touching some metal grounded peice has been suffiecient. I've seen plenty of people working on electronics, but never seen them wearing a strap.

I have found that Electromotive is sensitive to the radio noise made by the secondary......With that system one 'gets' to plan on replacing the (inexpensive) resistor plug wires every year or so.

Ground strap while setting up your system for YOU? Just ground yourself (easy) often as you work. Touch the car or the head.

No biggie.
