Ok, so in order to attempt an intercooler adaptation, I needed to dump the stock air box,

$25.00 "spectra" washable cone filter
$3.50 1/2" aluminum flat bar

Maybe 1 hours or so

Nicely enough my car has 3 nuts welded into the fender for other options im sure, or euro cars, so i used 2 of those. Ill redo the bracket later, i need to get the intercooler in, which isnt gonna be easy, this way the filter wont move, or rub.

Nicely done. You have an easy way for air to get in there now?

hahaha pep boys air filter

btw, that cone is waaay too small. combined with the lack of heatshield, it's probably taking away power. gut the stock box and make a 3" ram air into it and it flows plenty, more than likely outflowing that small cone.

if you want a cone, make a custom AMM > turbo pipe and get a BIG filter.

And you know this how?

Calculations to support your claim? Or is this benchracing?

you left out experience there cheif. mine was slightly bigger than that. i noticed really no improvement when I put the thing on, just loud noises. a few weeks ago I took it off and put the stock box with a K&N back in, it was then that I noticed how it didn't have as much power before I did that.

Stock airboxes suck. Teh end.

Cullen, you just gave the classic example of butt dyno, which isn't reliable in either direction. You and 740TP can take your factory airboxes with restrictions removed and get some real dyno time. I'm so over this benchracing

Well, if ya read the post, I had to take the stock air box out cause its in the way of the new intercooler im gonna put in. And the cone really isnt that small. (its also got filter material on the inside of the top. And you wanna talk restictions, look at the tub rfrom the AMM to the air cleaner lid, the plastic one that makes that 90 degree bend. Heat sheild is in the works (duh). And I tens not to bench race. But FYI, its louder, and no faster. Although I wanna say it feels like it responds better, but I wont know untill a few days of driving it. And whats wrong with the pep boys air filter. Whats so great about the K and N vs. what I got (which i got right now for $$ reasons) They are both washable oil bath filters. Nothing special there, 100 year old technology.

Thanks for the comments though

Heh, ya I had the choice of red, white, and blue...I thought red would be best if i wanna buy the K and N recharge kit, cause the oil spray is red...funny enough, when you wash em, they turn white, the oil spray makes em red.

There's a guy with a 500hp 302'd wagon who routes the intake through a stock volvo airbox w/ a K&N, philip knows him. tell that to him...

Mark - haha nothing wrong with the pep boys air filter. I just thought its kinda funny cause I work at pep boys.

carry on.

Im sorry ive got to point out, 302..turbo? intercooler? N/A? I man your talking apples and oranges here in terms of power and motors and breathing. I had no problem leaving the stock airbox, but it was in the way. and im sure its easier to get more power outa v-8 with the stock air box. And id think 500 is kinda on the high side. 302's tend to be at their ragged edge at about 450. the blocks split in 2 right down the middle.....
Mark

And the filter I bought at autozone, hehe

I will. There's a tight 90* bend right after the filter with less than 2" diameter, no good for boost. I could care less about the 5 liter.

where the hell is the MAF?

OMG...Megasquirt

Pat P's setup is just about as good.

Why make a heatsheild when you can do something much better by getting the filter OUT of the engine bay?

It doesn't really rain up here, it kind of drizzles.

Its going to be one huge toxic lake. I mean, think about this, youve got an entire city that now has to relocate. With nothing. What would you do? I cant imagine a disaster like that. I just hope all those people get back on their feet soon. And out "amazing, wonderful, richest" country helps out in every aspect. I guess we will see how well things work now that 30,000 people have no home, or place to go.
