What are your feelings about the AEM universal EMS? Comes with a lot of goodies including built in dual wideband controllers.....

I really liked the AEM plug'n'play systems, the Universal seems ok, but it's definitely quite expensive and the tuning pretty much needs to be done by someone who sells AEM. Also only has 4 ignition outputs so I didn't even consider it once I found that out.
The dual wideband setup does work very very well though. They have their wideband calibrations (especially if you use the AEM UEGO) really well set up.

yea, they're nice as ****, but where do ya get the universal? all the places that carry the PNP ones dont have a listing for the universal one (summit, etc) and a google search yielded the same ? :e-shrug:

It's still pretty new and a lot of the AEM dealers are sketchy about selling it because it is way harder to troubleshoot and provide support for a universal where someone has made their own harness etc.
Alamo and some of the real big AEM dealers list it.

A dealer was selling them on ebay a while back too for a whole lot cheaper than $3200 or whatever rediculous amount retails is. No a friggin chance I'd blow that much dough on it. :)

Yeah, pretty insane. It'll come down though, they're just the new thing. They were new on ebay for about 2600 maybe.
But still, I think you can get an Autronic SM2 or an Electromotive Tec3 or a club-level MoTeC for that kinda dough- they need to come down to the ~$2k mark before anyone will care. And changing the softwrae to do 6 ignition outputs would help too.

I heard that in order to purchase the universal setup, you have to correctly and sucessfully install and tune four of the plug and play systems. The service writer at the shop that I work at has the system for his eclipse. He said that he took the AEM tuning class and they told them that. It seems like an awesome system, lots of tuning required though. Oh yeah, that guy told me that he got the PNP system for his early 90's eclipse for $1100.

No, not the case. Only certified dealers can SELL the universal ems, also only certified parties can buy it direct form AEM.
Anyone can buy it from a dealer though so long as the dealer feels like selling you one. This is AEM's way of avoiding being responsible for too much tech support.

Go with Big Stuff 3 . Can easily be had for about 2300-2400 if you know where to look and 10000x times better than any AEM system. Cause I just think cold air intakes and underdrive pulley's dawg when I think AEM. And Big Stuff just makes the numbers

I couldnt find a listing for the AEM universal either.....
If it really is over 2K for it that will probably rule it out. However, since it has wideband built in that is worth 300 to me right there.

Oh, I see. So in order to sell the universal, a dealer has to install X amount of the PNP units. That makes more sense.
