Have been registered on turbobricks for ages but have never posted on the forums. I thought it would be good to start with some pictures of the volvo I bought last year. I bought the car for £30 to use for parts for my 88 240 GLT. I felt guilty paying £30 as the lady I bought it off filled the tank completely before I collected it, I dont know why. It also came with a good sony stereo. I stripped the parts I wanted then decided to give it some abuse around a friends farm before it went to the scrapyard. Hope you like the pictures.

The grey one looks awsome, how much of a beating did the blue one take though?

We thrashed it for about 7 days. It had a very leaky radiator which drained every few minutes. It frequently went into the red on the temp gauge. Shame I didnt take a picture of the engine bay as it was a solid block of mud. We had to shovel some mud out to allow the belts to turn. The car was driven to the local scarpyard once we had finished with it.

and people say the volvo would be the ultimate sleeper, THAT beast would be, at least in this country. Thoguh a 505 with a twin turboed premier v6 would be a close one too.

Hi suterman,
I just have the Grey 240 GLT at the moment. It's got 140k on it and is an automatic. (dont know why I bought an auto but it's kind of entertaining) I used to have a 240 GLE which was completely wrecked but I have a lot to thank it for as it got me hooked onto 240's. I'm trying to make this one as good as possible. I want to look at overhauling the suspension next. Unfortunately I dont have much mechanical experience so everything ends up costing a lot.
Have added a few accessories to it over the last couple of years. Dash gauges,Vent Covers, Centre armrest, Bumper stripes. I managed to find an Momo R-sport steering wheel on ebay for £15 a while back. The guy I bought it from had it fitted to a mercedes 190.
I have a friend who has converted a 240 saloon into a pickup and fitted it out with all wood in the back. It attracts a lot of attention especially when you are parked up and sitting in the back. Will get some pictures of it as soon as he returns from holiday.
Where in the midlands are you?
Do you know of any 240 saloons in local scrapyards. I am having real trouble locating some plastic interior parts.

Thanks for the welcome. I live in Oldbury near Junction 2 of the M5. I know kinver. Have been walking there many times and used to goto a car boot there every sunday when I was younger.
Have looked through photos of previous meets. looks like you have some good times. Looking forward to attending one in the near future.

what parts are you after?
I must admit ive never seen a 240 at any scrappies. Ive heard there is a volvo garage/breakers around the back end of the merry hill shopping centre somwhere but ive never been. griz and I went to a place called "saunders" scrappy but out of maybe 500+ cars they only had two volvos, A 740 and a 940.
Depending on what parts you need for the interior you may be able to get some from the 7 or 9 series.
Yeah and as griz says I live in Bridg(no e)north near kinver.
PS. you may regret scrapping that 240 as there are plenty of bits you can sell on ebay.

nice GLT :) I have been recently thinking about purchasing a 244GLT lately - undecided!
I'm thinking a West Midlands meet would be a good idea - I know two other 300 Mania members around here that would be interested ;)

Thanks for killing a Volvo. That's really what this board is all about - hating Volvos. Nothing cooler than coming on here and posting about how you destroyed a nice one.

lots of them here have terminal rot that won't pass the MOT no matter how much you weld the buggers. i know this doesn't matter in the US where you get a nice new 3" exhaust system which you can see through the bodywork, but it matters here.

Mine failed on rust. Had to get it welded. Plus there are plenty of them here and cheap prices. If no-one uses them, they just get crushed

ship them out of the country. hell how much does it cost to ship a car? id buy a euro 240 for the price of shipping.
one day their wont be any 240s left and you will regret the day you sent a 240 to its death:-(
nice glt tho

/\/\ He's right you know, The guy proberbly hasnt got room to store it, I dunno about in the usa but here in th UK if you're not using a car you have to register id off the road, and that means you cant leave it on the public road. most people here havn't got the space for spare cars to be lying around going rusty and seizing up...:-(
Please dont scare off our new brit TBricker.

Thanks for backing me up suterman. You're right, The car need so much work doing to it that it just wasnt practical for me to keep hold of it. If I had the space I would have stored it and used it for parts.
Dont worry i'm not being scared off. I did post some pictures of my 244GLT to show that I do look after my current car.
In response to the parts request. I need all the interior plastics, pillars, lower and centre dash plastics etc and the front and rear carpet. I am converting from tan to black.
