Finally got around to building one last night (yeah yeah hahaha, i'm gonna hafta get one tho for my car) layout is better, its got 2x as many parts, but from a withstanding abuse standpoint it looks like it'd be better suited than the v2.2 boards. Not a lot of realestate left to play with after the fact save for the proto area. the various selectable options are nice (ignition out, two different tach input circuits, etc). Takes a bit longer to assemble than the v2.2 and some of the component locations are harder to find due to the close proximity of things.

i think if one were to network a pair via CAN, that one could do such.
