Runnong? RunnOng? Once I can call a typo, but too, err, I mean, two, lay off the caffeine son!

Kenny and I are both running it, open loop mode only, with a Volvo 850 Boost Control Solenoid.

Just a bumparooski - I dropped my overall boost to about 10PSI (from 15). Just a rattle of keys away.

Once I had that sorted, I started thinking about my timing map... there's a tendency to ping and therefore retard the timing around 2400RPM; this is evidently where the turbo, head, cam, etc all come together with a vengeance. To keep from pinging there on 87 octane (all CA gas is garbage, at least the 87 is cheaper), I had my timing pulled to about 9BTDC.

So :pow: duh, why not hold the boost to 10-12 at that ping-zone, and then up it to 15 or more  after that point? :-D works good.

So now, boost is set to 10-12 up to about 3000 RPM when I have it go to 15-16. Yee-haw.

Only problem is a little bit of spiking on initial WOT. If I'm at 2500RPM and floor it, it spikes to 12 then settles back down to 10 until 3000, then up to 15 or so. But on shift recovery at 3500RPM or so, boost spikes to 17 or more, enough to hit my overboost cut.

Anyway... the short version is this: The bad spot (2500RPM) is only encountered in first gear, and only briefly. More boost from 3000 up pretty much lets me run 15PSI all the time, except at launch... and there, the lower boost is a crude traction aid.

MSnS rocks.
