GT differences

what were the exterior physical differences between the GTs and the Turbos? so far, i've already counted the different front end (hood/grille/lights/spoiler/stuff), the pinstriping, no spare tire wells... what else is there? wheels don't count. was there a sunroof on the GTs?

i'm planning on putting the GT front end on my turbo. im also cutting out the spare tire wells (they've been atrophied by rust anyway) and welding down flat sheet metal. i don't think i'll go as far as pinstriping, but i was wondering how far off i was from having a GT-wannabe. :lol:

my dads '79 had a sunroof. Taillights are another big one, the 78's had the 4 lens ones like the 164's, the 79's had 5 panels just like the turbos but w/ a tall white reverse light

I think you mean 144's, because the 164 had the same style, but they were 6 panel.

The 5 panel IS the one with the tall reverse light. The Turbo always had 6 panel. The '79-'80 GT used 5 panel taillights.

'73 and '74 164's had the 4 panel lights, like the 140's of the same era.

'75 164's got the 6 panel lights with the chrome frames, the same as the '76-'78 264's.

Note that only North America continued to get the updated 164 in '75, the rest of the world stopped getting them in '74, presumably because they were selling slowly and they had to sell the remaining examples during '75 to make way for the new 264, which replaced it.

I would be able to sell you an entire GT Interior if you were interested. So far not many people are looking to get everything and if I am unable to sell it as a package I would be open to selling pieces.
