Working on a matched set of 240s, both being reworked to a great extent.
The major work is to my silver car, currently not running and being stored at my parent's house till spring. A fully worked b28 has been sourced but will need to be rebuilt come Jan or Feb. Hopefully I will find an m51 to put behind it. The engine is currently carburated and will remain that way till all future suspension work is done. Ultimately I would like this to be a show car with full repaint and custom interior.

The dash has already been redesigned, however most of the gauges are older and beat up looking and will be replaced with all new ones with white faces and green or blue backlighting.

Eventually I would like to get an r-sport wheel and make amatching shifter plate with a rubber boot beneath it.
Ultimately I would like it to have an all black interior with a blue or custom green interior.
My second project, pics to soon follow is a black 91 240 standard.
This car has significantly more moderate plans in store for it and are much shorter term. A simple +T and suspension upgrade.
Simple list is
B cam-aquired
turbo-aquired
90+ manifold-aquired
intercooler-aquired
electric fan-aquired
740 or custom hoses-still looking
23mm sways from a turbo and gt-still looking
boge turbo shocks and lowering springs-still looking
When the oil pan is pulled out of the silver 240 it'll have an oil intake line added for placement in this car. The goal is a simple and clean install running a max of 8psi with a turbo suspension for slightly better handling. This car will be a daily driver and will be used by my wife on an occasional basis so it'll need to stay reliable and relitively quiet. I don't like the tan interior so when the silver car gets gutted this'll prob get a full blue work up.

It's albany, ny.
The gauges were from an r-sport dash but they're not in very good shape. I kind of cooked a couple of the gauges figuring out the wiring, they still work but not well. The internals of the tach had been for a 260 and I swapped them to work with a 4cyl and now a 6 is going back in so it's no use either which is why I'm gonna replace all of them.

Love the dash, an Rsport wheel would def. set it off.:)

A quick plug for the 240 group A spoiler group buy, details in the group buy forum.
For the moment the plans for the black 240 have been put on the back burner and it may be a year before that gets picked back up. The silver car is a totally different story.
I just purchased a b28 engine that has already been reworked, used 3 times and then stuck in a chicken coop for the last 12 years. I was in competition with someone from CA for this engine and I won since it could be dropped in my trunk and driven off with rather then haveing to be crated and shipped, sorry if it was you. Now on to the porn. 56k beware, the photos will be shrunk when I have access to photoshop at school.
This engine has been carberated and will probably stay this way for a long time to come.
http://eve.albany.edu/~rr5699/intake.jpg
The intake uses a holley 2 barrel carb, which was unfortunately not stored with the engine and was so rusted that it's useless except as a core for the replacement which is 129.00 from autozone. There was duct tape covering the opening which was a very good thing since below it was a mouse nest of epic proportions.
http://www.albany.edu/~rr5699/extra.jpg
This is an extra intake, I have no idea what kind of carb it takes but this one came off a b27 or 28E, the first is believed to have come off a renault or peugeot and clearly looks like it flows better, this one will probably be offered up for sale.
http://www.albany.edu/~rr5699/front.jpg
As can be seen the entire outside of the engine is crusty and in need of a major cleaning, the pulleys will have to be wire brushed clean and engine cleaner used over the whole outside.
http://www.albany.edu/~rr5699/side.jpg
The exhaust ports were only covered with a tarp, careful feeling around in each revealed them to all be empty and they haven't fallen prey to rodents, each one was carefully vacumned out. The studs have been soaked and will be removed later when I've soaked them a few more times.
http://www.albany.edu/~rr5699/valves.jpg
After seeing the outside of the engine I was concerned about the interior, apparently I didn't need to be worried. There was still about a quart of oil in the heads, the colour didn't come out right on this and it looked like fresh oil. None of the valve stems exhibit any signs of rust nor do the chains. A nice thing to discover when I removed the intake was that it no longer used a gasket but o-rings instead.
For now the engine is being kept at my parents where the car is so I won't be able to do anything with it for 2-3 more weeks. The valve covers and manifold will be taken to be cleaned. In addition I will be buying a new water pump and oil pump rather then risk the old ones. Work done on this engine is as follows.
Custom domed pistons with butterfly cuts to increase compression.
Slightly enlarged valves
Custom exhaust manifolds for better flow
Custom grind cams
everything balanced
Aluminum flywheel
Exhaust ports have been enlarged.
I also need to get a hold of the bracket that the engine mounts attach to, they either lost or sold the old one but since the engine isn't fully cleaned yet I don't need it at the moment.
Interestingly enough the guy claims it dyno'd 275-280 whp with an m46 and told me to put an m47 or m46 behind it, I'll be doing that for now till I get a m51 or at least the bell housing and a getrag 262, just gonna have to drive carefully. I also need to look into other replacement carbs since auto zone claimed there was a better flowing one that I could put in for a little more power.
With luck this will compete in the east vs west as a NA, I'm looking into holley carbs that work with a blower for a little extra.

just cause these posts are meant to be updated.
Due to the group buy I have a group A spoiler winging its way to be installed in the spring, just need a new trunk lid from a pre 86 which should be easy to find.
http://www.albany.edu/~rr5699/spoiler1.jpg
Two of these are comeing my way, hopefully one will sell but if it doesn't I do have 2 240s, it'd just be a little ricey on the black car since it has no performance mods.
I have IPD sways arriving next week, they're used to cut costs but I can live with the difference and the extra cash.
Also sourced an m46 from a 260 and already have a decent clutch to go with it, down sides are no drive shaft and the OD is busted. I don't plan on using the silver car for highways much so this shouldn't matter.
The exhaust studs unthreaded with no problems, so I should be ordering new ones from the dealer next week.
The valve covers and intake manifolds will be sand blasted next week and possibly painted either green or blue, pics will follow on these.
Don't sticka b28 in there, they really aren't that good, the B280 is a much better engine, more power, better design and it also is EFi...

This engine has already been fully worked to have far more power then a b280, also went with the carburated to save on the hassles of trying to wire up a 6 cylinder in a 4 cylinder car, some kind of after market efi will be used in a year or two.

i love 91 244s
sounds like a cool project you got going there.
cant wait to see the end result
Ah, I should've read the thing more carefully, 3.1 B28 sounds good, but still it's a B28, just make sure you change the oil frequently.

Minor update, no pics..
I pulled the exhaust manifold studs, the origional ones were rusted badly enough that several of the nuts wouldn't come off same with the intake manifold. Thankfully all of them came loose with a vise grip, firm steady pressure and a lot of prayer. New ones will be ordered tomorrow though they won't be installed for a while. Snagged a new oil pressure sending unit off ebay for 6.00 plus shipping.
Slight work to the black 240 to be performed tomorrow, this is my DD so until the engine is in the silver car and running and I've rebuilt the turbo motor I have waiting in the wings this one is minor work at best. But...
Since the weather is a balmy 35 and clear it's time to install the B cam I've had sitting for ever, mostly doing it because I have all the tools for once, the V-6 forced me to buy a torque wrench. In addition I picked up a set of IPD bars for 150.00, guy didn't know what size they are 28/25 or 25/22(which I believe them to be) he just said they were the thickest offered 7 or 8 years ago. Also discovered that the intank pump doesn't work, and apparently never did since the wires weren't hooked up, :grrr: discovered this when I searched for the source of a gas small and discovered gas was coming out at the pump. Still get 25mpg and ordered a new pump off ebay which should arrive wed or thurs. Hopefully this will give me a little extra umph. Between the pump and the cam I expect to feel a little more in the seat, andhopefully will get 26-27mpg :) . Also planning on rear shocks and trailing arm bushings but not till the end of the month.
the sways for a 240 wont' fit on the front with a 260 crossmember and engine in, because of the sump shape I beleive, the 260's did come with quite a thick sway bar stock though.

Just a minor update, I've taken the valve covers and intake to the cleaners and they've come back quite nice

this is what they used to look like

Definately a major improvement. Any bolt holes will be properly covered and the three pieces are gonna be painted some sort of green, either british racing or a jade. The plan is to remove the lower trim on the car and paint on racing stripes of the same color which I think will look good on a silver car. Besides these a new water pump was sourced from FCP and is waiting to go on.

Just had to post this since I found it an interesting occurance. I stopped down to the volvo dealer to get a new distributor for the V-6 and the parts guy said he hadn't seen one in a long time. So I told him it was for the engine going into my 240. He then told me that one of the local repair shops used to race and had put a prv into a 240. So I said who I got it from and the guy flipped and started asking how I managed to get my hands on this engine. He told me that he sold the shop 4 crate b28s and that all 4 had put out unbelievable amounts of power. Also that a number of people had offered a couple grand for the engine and had been trying for years to get their hands on it. I didn't realize that when I was told the engine was only run twice by the seller that it meant the engine had literally only been run twice, I figured that he had simply built up a used engine. Also recieved another set of J and E pistons to put in if I need to rebuild it, these were from one of the crashed versions and were only used once, there aren't even wear marks on the pistons and these cost as much as what I paid for the engine.

Mild update.
Managed to get a rebuilt alt for 20 woth shipping. Also bought a rad but it showed up damaged so it has to go back which sucks. Managed to score the engine mount brackets and exhaust manifolds for free. Also got a rebuilt auto for 20.00 from a 78 264. But unfortunately the wallet is about to take a serious dent which will put everything off for about a month to two depending on my income.
Engine mounts are expensive for this thing 35.00 each from bap-geon and more from volvo.
Valve cover gaskets are 13.00 each
Oil pan gaskets are 15.00
exhaust mani gaskets are 16.00
exhaust mani studs are 5.60 each times 12.00
Carb is 130.00 and I still need fuel line to get the gas from the pump to the carb.
Exhaust pipe from manifolds to cat is 35.00, just gonna stick with my stock system for the moment.
There's a few other things but I can't think of them at the moment.
