Sunroof and a flathood baby! YEAH!!! Picked it up yesterday in san diego (loves me some craigslist) $450. 1980 242DL auto with a B21 and K-jet and a 3 speed auto. Mechanically it needs everything a 240 needs,

center support and bearing
Engine and trans mounts
Shocks and struts, and strutmounts
Balljoints and Tie rod ends cause im anal and they are old
The rack doesnt feel quite right, so thats on the list
Blower motor doesnt work, but i think its electrical...if i gots to do the motor, its gettin a heater core also!
Needs door pockets
Needs carpet
Sunroof mechanism cable in the closed position is stripped cause the crank was loose for so long, but it does open and close smoothly, needs a sunroof seal
Almost all the interior dash lights were out..replaced all the bulbs today, still needs one headlight
And a headlight switch
Seats need to be reupolstered and foamed
The motor is dry, no leaks (YEAH!)
Radiator sensor plug is leakin
Trans tailshaft bushing is gone and seal is leakin (prolly cause when i picked it up there were only 2 bolts in the trans crossmember, on one side, so the driveshaft and exhaust was holding the trans up.
The exhaust is uncut, still bolted and clamped.
The dash pad is cracked and all plastic trim is intact, and the clock works!!
Needs rear pads, rotors front and rear, rear calipers, all the hoses and a brake flush.
An ignition switch, but i kinda like the push button for the starter, makes it feel like a ferrari.
Needs one tire right now, and a spare, cause its bald.....
Heh, normal everyday maintenance......body is straight, clean and never been hit. The car is a virgin, un-buchered, un-modified, and complete.

Minor rust so far, but the body work is last. and it had a bag full of goodies such as extra knobs, handles, and so on.

Nice! You really don't want to know what a $450 Volvo from here looks like, but you'd be more likely to get it using one of those giant magnets than try to pull the major pieces up on a flatbed.

I have a set of blue velour 242 seats out of an '83, tire(s) for use as spares (already mounted on Coronas), and some misc. interior parts. If you need 'em, let me know. I'll prolly trade ya labor in doing some work on the 740 ...

Actually, K-jet and CIS in general is reliable, when set up properly and everything works. Granted you know what your doin...I could make it run like new with the K-jet, (ive had mucho expirance with VW's and Benz) but I'd rather not spend the time or money....its an old outdated system. Not that LH 2.2 is much beter, but interms of parts avaiability, simplicity, look, reliability, and cost...this car will be switched to LH 2.2 in the future. No squirt, no turbo (well no turbo right now) Keepin it a simple good lookin driver.

Did I mention it just passed smog too!! YEAH!!!

I'm buying my next car in California. Ontario (Canada) cars suck. That is such a sweet find. It's exactly what I want, except the power steering and auto trans. Good stuff!!!

P.S. K-JET ROCKS! (you know it)

Nice car, but I feel $450 was way to much. but then again, I get my cars for 100$ or less. my most expensive car was the GT 575$ could have been $200 but the wife of the guy who owned it, was all sentimental value... pfffttt god. my next car, was an '83 242 DL with all the fixens for $100 bucks, didn't run, just needed an ECU and ran perfect. sold it for $1200 which was low should have got $2000 for it. This was a Grandma's car... I mean every aspect was perfect. biege too. my next car was a '87 740 Turbo just needed radiator, head gasket, water pump and it was good.. but then I blew up the tranny racing it. next car, $150 242 Turbo, ended up needing more than just a head gasket but I have spare motors, so its all good now. and then my latest car, '79 wagon practically free. runs drives everything works but the dome lights and heater motor.. and a gigantic rust hole in the side. pfft... easy fix.

but damn, really, I feel you got ripped off, to be honest. $450? $200 would have been acceptable here. sounds like that car will need alot of work. I'm not knocking it. but the price of which you purchased it for. my opinion. I mean no offense.

Looking at your list, it's no wonder your cars are $100! They weren't running!

This was a $450 car that was driven up from San Diego, about 150 miles away. Again, it was driven.

Granted, it's currently being dealt with ... there are some "issues" with the K-jet, 2.1L displacement, and the 3 speed that need "resolving" ... :badboy:

Trust me, it's not. Even the steel cords were worn!

It's serving well on SB#2, though.

i'm gonna go against the grain and say you paid that much for a ****ed up ass 242 with a slushbox?

sure, the body's straight, the engine doesnt leak oil, and the backseat's nice, but jesus that's a monster list of messed up ****.

way to take it personal. you're right i dont know the socal used car market. i just wouldnt pay that much for a car with that much stuff that needs immediate replacing unless i was going to tear it all down and redo it from the ground up, or strip it out and prep it for the track anyway.

then again i'm from the volvo mecca, and people practically pay you to take cars in that condition.

Ok, heres the deal with the price of the car.....It needed all the maintance crap youll find on any 100$ 500$ 1000$ car....the usual basic suspension parts, no biggie...The motor ran fine, the trans shifted fine, they dont need to be replaced, infact id love to sell em, but they arnt woth anything. I drove the car 150 miles from where i bought it, then drove it another 1,000 without doing anything but a tailshaft bushing and seal, and one tire. The body is straight and rust free (with the exception of those 2 spots), the entire FI system, and all respected wiring was unbuchered. the exuast was untouched. the car is complete, and has not been messed with, modified, or changed...thats worth a few more $$ without a doubt. in socal, 450$ for a car i had to do almost nothing to to drive over 1,000 miles, and prolly another 5-10000 more, is a damn nice deal.....ive seen many a 100$ cars, i bought one, it didnt run....a few hundred later it was a nice daily driver. seriously.....it was a turn key driver, just needed some TLC in the looks department.....I did good for the $$ cause when im done with the motor and trans, ill have just over 1,500 into it, you show me that kinda progress for that kinda money, once youve seen the pics in a few weeks
Mark

If we-todd ever comes back online kane, ill post the pics....or gimme somewhere i can send em to.
