ok guys ... bout time we plan ahead for something semi big going on here, there is liek 2 hours worth of driving between most all of us ...so that's a lame excuse to never get out

SO what days work best for everyone? anyone have a place in mind? lets try to shoot for 8+ tbrickers @ this meet as that might be the most AZ has ever seen @ once(besides the VCOA meets)

i wouldn't mind doing it on a friday night or maybe a sat to go drag racing in chandler as that's fun for those w/ quick cars(which should be @ least 1/2 of us). i can get the two FWD guys there tho i'll need to plan ahead for it.

I'm in, altough, I'll probably show up with Alex, since I just have a brick.

Oh yeah one more thing...I would hate driving in a non A/C car in 110F....

you won't like my car then ... 3+ years no a/c on that thing ... its bad but eh it could be worse

figure any of the tucson guys that come up can crash @ my place if they come up friday for drags so sat we can hang out and work on cars...

I have Fridays and Saturdays off. I could certainly bring the 1800 (if she's in the mood). Or my wagon at the very least. I have traffic school on the 28th of January though (doh!).

FYI.

Arizona Volvo day is on the 11th of February. More info can be found here: http://cactuschapter.org/page7.html

Hmmm...hopefully I'm gonna get Olga(my 242) ready for the meet, but it's highly unlikely.

Oh yeah and we kinda had volvo meets in Tucson the last couple of days..4 people 5 volvos.

i've been meaning to send in $ to join the local VCOA but i'm to broke to afford it haha. otherwise i guess i should sign up and try to be there ... as ugly as my car is i bet its the fastest volvo powered car there

and those in phoenix that get bored on weekends or need help on thier car do ask me as most of the time i am working on something(volvo related) in my garage or just sitting around looking for something to do

Lord_Athlon

They weren't official meets since I wasn't invited. :grrr: Respect your elders, invite me next time guys! :-P

(Where was this, anyway?)

I get to work on my 3" exhaust this weekend since I now have my parts (bends, muffler, etc.) Well, everything except for a 2.3"-3" smooth transition but I'll work around that. Good thing most of my customers are closed on Monday :-D.

I would lean towards a Saturday meet, doesn't matter the month. (Don't need no steenkin' A/C, thats for pooh-sees :badboy:.) By the time I get my wife and critters up to feenix after we get out of work on a Friday it's late, so a Saturday meet is my preference.

my friend blake(uber stock 245), me(stock244, and my project 242) and alex...and there was my mom's car(945SE)

Damn Alex, its a joke.:-P

Besides, I mainly have it for my critters since I drive them around in the 240 when they're not in the mini-van. I ran my 122s for years before I put A/C in it. Yes, here in Tucson, without A/C. And yes, since I converted to a late model A/C and power steering, I am proud of it and happy with its performance. Its that whole "I did it myself, didn't buy it that way" kind of happiness :badboy:. Capiche?

Have a good weekend everyone

hey domox got a engine hoist i could borrow?
Sadly, no :-(.

When I did my engine swap last March I did it at my buddies garage - Roy, owner of Swedish Connection. He has all the power tools and such and it took me a weekend to do. I did my rear axle swap there over New Years weekend. (He was at the sand dunes in Kali on his quads.) Talk about a PITA, but it was worth it. Have you considered renting an engine hoist? Most rental places have them and you can rent them for three days usually and most rental ones have wheels you can tow them on a standard hitch. Give it a shot.

Re: you engine swap, I can offer some help and help where I can, but this weekend is out since I have to go to feenix today and tomorow I'm starting my exyhaust swap. Drop me a PM and I'll send you my contact info. I look forward to hearing from you.

Oh yeah, I drive by Silverbell and Camino de la Tierra (Ruthrauff) every day - I live in Continental Ranch. Maybe I can stop by some day.

Later all

Well, yes and no. While we do have Mt. Lemmonn, it is nice and all, but its completely across the valley from me and the folks from feenix would have to drive quite a bit.

Food is a mino issue...there are stores open 24/7
I must disagree. We have some excellent Mexican food restaraunts and I know of one good sushi restaraunt.

Or, we could just load up on sandwich stuff and drive somewhere.

South Mountain Park

thelostartof
01-19-2006, 03:46 PM
people have just been trying to figure things out .. myself .. trying to finish a project and find more $ so i don't have to live in a trailer(no place to work on cars)

otherwise no idea ... what's best for everyone? i'll try to talk to the two fwd guys this weekend and see if they are free, because that makes it almost 50/50 for who's where so someplace in the middle might be nice ... is there even anything in the middle?

Lord_Athlon
01-19-2006, 04:27 PM
The only thing in the middle is casagrande/coolidge. Nothing special there. We could have a small meet at tempe river park. There is plenty of parking, and it could make for some potentially cool pictures.

domox
01-19-2006, 04:33 PM
Papago park isn't so bad either...

I still want to terrorize the ultra-elite-richie-poos in PV

Besides, there's cheap fishing there too...

ah bitch ... reading is not my strong point

thelostartof

Lord_Athlon
01-19-2006, 04:53 PM

domox
01-20-2006, 01:41 PM
I'd still like to see a central area. How about Picacho Peak? Nice scenery.

maxman: We're looking at Feb 18th.

prince athlon: No, just PV. I admit, even as a Republican, I frown upon flaunting one's wealth. Oh yeah, persons with only three inches need not reply!

Shirley (raise your hand if you know the movie) someone must know of a location that is NOT feenix-centric and is somewhat nice to visit? Otherwise I say we just meet in Florence, drive to Oracle Junction, up to Globe, and back to Feenix. On the way back we can stop at Mikes place and have him fix stuff that broke on the run. :badboy: Yes / No?

Just another of my $0.02. I now have about $0.20 in the kitty. :-P

maybe we can meet down there .... anyone got an extra b230?

i'm up for a day of swaping an engine... i've done engine swaps in 3-4 hours so its not that hard

and a HG is only $12, whole kit w/ the gaskets is $46 so that's cheap enough for an easy fix

01-24-2006, 11:55 PM
Nope. Got one. Its called having a life outside of cars, I guess.

thelostartof
01-25-2006, 01:37 PM
LOL ... well i guess distance is an excuse, tho 4 days .. damn takes all 5 mins to do a compression test, throw the thing in the mail $3.85 it'll be @ his place next day, he can do the test himself and then send back ... which is prob less than the gas and time costs to drive one way and then back

sooner his car is fixed sooner we can have the meet further away. plus it gives me something to race agaisn't HA

but yea i need to go down there anyways to steal parts off his wagon so i guess we can just call the meet to be in Tucson?? guess we can just have a big work on cars day, we gonna order pizza or raid someplace for food? need i bring anything with me?

ok so offically Meet is Feb 18th in Tucson. time? and addy?

anyone wanting to go but not wanting to make the drive can ride with me, tho no heat or a/c in the beast so drive can be hard if the weather is being a bitch.

ok so Tucson guys have little excuse to not go ... phoenix guys ... who's going, who doesn't care to go, who needs a ride, who's willing to pitch in for gas that's riding with me? we can do it in style and make the drive on a whole tank of race gas, or do it the slow way(*all 10psi) on pump gas

i'll bring my two little tool boxes which should be enough for most stuff tho i'm sure you guys have tool sets

fige
01-25-2006, 03:47 PM

domox
01-25-2006, 05:53 PM
Jason, I mean Alex, I guess its time to clean up the wiring?

Is the meet in Tucson or Three Points, cause Tres Puntos is 20 miles outside of Tucson, heading towards Sells on Hwy 86. You feenix folks are looking at over 130 of driving one way.

I still say the Tucson folks can fix Alex's hoopty and drive to Picacho Peak (Felix, note the lack of Japanese anime character names).

Or! How 'bout everyone meets in Florence, we take pictures around historice Florence and the prison :-P and then we drive back to Mike's in (non-pc) Apache Junction where we can have a ritual flesh burning (barbeque). This way everyone does the relatively the same amount of driving. Maybe for the next meet we can save up gas money and go somewhere nice and cool, like White Mountains, Camp Verde, Prescott, or Flagstaff.

Just another dos centavos.

and if the official aim express doesnt work, there is a very primitive one that pop up blockers wont detect. Used it in school 24/7

or you can come to my place and do it ... being i have a wife and kid i need to kind of keep an eye on along w/ stay near by .

you got sways??? from?

and sure we can work on it tho i might also be doing the rear control arms on a 780 in the afternoon hours of this weekend so

everyone could pitch in like $8 and w/ 10 people that's $80 and that'd buy me a nice BBQ to use for meets ...plus it'll give me something to throw in the wifes face so she'll cook for us haha

but eh w/ my hopfully(prayin) that i get a raise soon $ might not be SOO tight but untill then yea i'm broke as crap

eh i still need to get a 10inch sub and wire my car up for it

only condition is ... my place means no alky, i guess we could supply all of the food and drinks tho if someone wanted to pitch in i'd be fine w/ that. depending on how busted down ya'll cars are we can fix them up all day while others sit around and do nothing or help.

Well, now that Arizona has dispatched the scum-deveels, I am able to hop online and check out the meet standings. We've progressed to purchasing a grill. No self-respecting fabricator 'purchases' a grill, right Alex?. :-P

Mike: Yeah, she-who's-name-must-not-be-spoken (wife), also laughs and giggles at men (she says 'boys') who meet up to talk about Volvo cars. She will be dealt with accordingly.

I also concur, every couple of months would be nice. Assuming, of course, we can decide on a place and those without A/C won't wuss out on us during summer months.

OK. So lets vote:

1 - Tucson (Work on Felix's whip)
2 - Picach-owe Peak
3 - Tres Puntos (If we haven't fixed Alex's hoopty and its magical wiring yet)
4 - Run to Florence and back to Mike's for ritual flesh burning and general Volvo mechanations. (This option assumes everyone has semi-operating vehicles, which is a touchy subject for most poor TB'ers)

I place my vote for Judge Alito, sorry, meant #4.

thats very mature of you

so were meeting at mike before we go to florence and forming a caravn going there?

domox

Alex: Do what's best for you. If you need to work to pay rent, maintain the significant other in the manner she is accustomed to, buy more Volvo stuff, etc, then stay on the job or better yet, find another job. And above all, tell them that you have a pre-existing engagement out of town the weekend of the meet (tell them you're the best man at a wedding or something like that) so that its a non-issue.

On drifting and silly driving in general:
1 - Filled my 122s with five people and went on Sendario Road down here. Got it airborn. Yes. Airborn. When I landed I ripped the fuel tank drain plug clean off - left a square hole where the solder joint ripped off. Lets say it took a LONG time to get back since we were stranded out there.
2 - Gates Pass - on the way over the back side, swerved to avoid a rock pile (from the side of the hill), wasn't paying attention and lightly tagged the right front fender into the hill, spent an hour bending the lip back so we could drive the car.
3 - Gates Pass - coming back over (different car) I missed a shift in a mid-80's Mustang. Coming around a decreasing radius, left hand turn, that also had an increased downgrade angle. I hit the brakes and cranked the wheel into the turn to avoid going off the pavement. Long story short - rear end was inches from a ravine.
4 - Wilmot road approaching I-10 - Myself and another friend. He made the mistake of saying his car (Mustang GT, black) could take anything and I asked him to prove it. He gave me the keys. We went down Wilmot and just before I-10 there's a train crossing the road. Lets just say its very prudent to slow down. I was doing 90. We went airborn and landed on all four wheels. He was right, his car was pretty stout. As we got onto I-10 a crack emerged on his windshield. He never let me drive again.

This was all over 18 years ago. I don't do silly stuff anymore now that I more responsible:rofl: and have a business and a wife and kids to worry about. But it sure was fun!

so were meeting at mike before we go to florence and forming a caravn going there?
Not me, mon freir. I'm driving to Florence and THEN up to Apache Junction. I like driving and all, but driving to feenix and then back around is a bit much.

Here's what I see as the current status:

- Eight confirmed attendees, one of which is a maybe(Alex)
- We're meeting in Florence, then driving to Apache Junction
- Menu includes BBQ (hotdogs/brauts/hamburgers) and whatever
- Soda and H20 only
- Possible sleep over with continuation at salvage yard(s) on Sunday?

Anyone bringing radios(walkee-talkee)?

Alex locked his keys in the trunk...ROFL...sry alex I just had to.

But since Alex is so 1337 he simply hotwired it....the trunk button that is.

It was fun at your house, can't wait till next week. Oh btw, those wheels are taken ;-)

Locked the keys in the trunk about 40 min from home, so i popped out the glovebox and touched the wire to the yellow wire going to the light. Electric trunk popper FTW!
