Hi

I thinking about buy 122 wagon at the moment the car is white(I don't like white cars).

Anyway I am thinking about a retro paint job on the car Like the two tone 50/60 style paint jobs Eg cream on the roof and a solid paint on the lower parts of the car

Like this

I had an all red 122 wagon and it was OK, but I really like that 2-tone scheme in this picture. Go for it.

Hi All

I have looked at some OS Amozon club web site I have seen plenty of 2 tone 120 sedan/2 doors but not many wagons. I thinking of a 2 tone paint job if I get the car Because it not common

I am going for the retro look with the big wheels like this
http://www.nvak.no/misc/gallery/archive2004/D-80860T.jpg

And the paint style I am going for is Cream over Light blue or cream or white over this colour
http://www.nvak.no/misc/gallery/archive2003/24-10-75T.jpg

The car has been upgraded with a 140 diff 1800E front brakes and stub axles. So I was also thinking of using 17 inch+ FWD volvo wheels

Jeez, I really like that!
I think it's much more tasteful in that slightly washed-out dark green than it would be in a similar blue. A grey-over-black could be nice, but I think the black wouldn't work so well with most alloys.

Make sure you drive the 122 a bit before purchasing it, personally I hate my 122 wagon, it is the most uncomfortable little clown car volvo ever made.
Just my opinion, and a warning if you are over 5'10" it's a cramped little car.

I loved my 122 wagon. I wish I still had it. and I am 6' 6" I will trade you for my freshly rebuilt 244 ti. I will see if I can find some more pics. I thought of doing the next 122 with a berry color with the cream.

You're mad! Or maybe I'm mad.
I learned to drive in a 122 and I love those cars, I wish I would get my wagon on the road!

Nah I am not quite ready to get rid of it, I kept it cause my then GF now wife made me as she wanted it for her to drive. So I kept it but haven't had any time to work on it for the last year and a half because I bought a house with no garage and haven't put up a shop yet.

So I have replaced the engine with a slightly built one and once she drives it for a while if she doesn't like it either I will put it up for sale on here.

The only thing cool about the cars is the awesome style and the best designed tailgates evar!!!! I love how you can tilt the upper window out at different angles; and when you lower the tailgate you can fold the license plate down and it still is visible and lit and legal to drive with the back open :-P.

I don't doubt that with similar suspension upgrades as my 1800 has it would handle damn well also, dunno how well balanced it is without sways though.

But my main gripe about 122 wagons is that the best part about volvo wagons is folding down the back seat and having a ton of space in a relatively small car package. However the 122 seat when folded down is SO far forward that you can't sit comfortably at all, I am 6'2" and I can fit yeah.. sure... but no way in hell is it comfortable.

Before I get rid of it I plan to try out a set of recaros I have with 122 rails on em, however they are at my sisters house in her barn a good ways away. Maybe that will improve it; but if not. Kate might like it either way who knows.

Anyway I am checking this thread out cause I want to give it a decent paintjob as I got it as the 3rd owner the 2nd owner was a kid I knew maybe 18 when I bought it. He had bought it from the Original owner who had it parked in his driveway and it was in unrestored NICE condition with A/C and power brakes and all oh and over 300K in NICE maintained shape.
But the kid had rearended a minivan and painted it ghetto like at the HS auto shop I had seen the body prep and it was OK, but the paintjob was TERRIBLE. he told me someone offered to paint it for free if they could use it in a movie as a taxi (but I totally saw him in the autoshop working on it. Well they only had to replaced front fenders and hood and no body work was necessary further rear of the fenders. Anyway the paintjob looks like it was brushed on and scrubbed half off with primer showing through ALL over, it is sprayed just poorly and.. well anyway this is it

really low quality old pic of it though used to be my sig....

I am also looking for an old school wagon. I have seen a dark green 145 with a wood rack on it here or there, i'd like to get it!

There is a white 145 i have seen here or there around town, but a dark green was nice!

122 would be great if it was a wagon, unfortunately, too many are too far gone, and can't afford a restoration. I am 6'3" though...so i'd find one locally to check out as far as comfort.

Wagons own. I have never had a 245 yet though...maybe i should try one.

Sean/Aardvark [forgot your name...sorry...:)]/Pat - those look great.

I like the lower half to be a light blue/green, and the top to be eggshell, but maybe slightly more creamier

As far as the comfort level in a 122 wagon, I never folded the seats down, so I have no idea how much space you lose with that. However, I almost always had the seats folded down in my 245 ('83) and I always felt cramped. I'm 6'2". So, maybe that is just a Volvo problem on earlier wagons? I know it get's much better on later models like the 700 series, and so on.

No doubt the things can handle if a little suspension work is done. Get some springs, shocks, and some sway bars, wider wheels, and hold on!

What I found was that when I am in the 122 with the seat up and as far back as it goes, (stock) I am about as cramped as I would be in the 240 with the seat folded down.
But I imagine that if you either made the seat rails telescoping slides to extend the travel, or moved them aft it would be more comfortable with the seat up at least. Meh I like the 1800 TONS more for driving comfort even with spartan similar features. (1800 is MUCH more spartan in my case)
And the 142's or 240's are nicer to drive stock by far. just more comfortable and better ergonomically.
But none of those are wagons with awesome classic style, the 1800es looks like a pregnant porpoise (in my opinion).
So that's why I have the 122, I still like the style a lot, I even like the dash layout alright and a lot of the features and the ergo parts, just not the seat location/ legroom.

I certainly agree about 1800s. For some reason the legroom in those is ridiculous, and I can stretch my legs out completely, and we switched to Corbeaus in ours.

I think the seats do need to be moved in 122s. In my coupe, even with the seats all the way back, it does seem like they don't go back far enough, and I was surprised to find that I had them all the way back when I went to adjust them. This can't be too hard to fix though? Re-drilling some holes, messing with the limits on the adjusments? I haven't actually looked at it too much as I plan to replace the seats in my 122 eventually.

Yeah it won't be too hard, my concern on the wagon is that if not done perfectly it might compromise the foldability of the rear seat.
I guess the 122 shifter isn't that great either, or the driving position, I think the remounted seats should remedy it though. Glad to know I'm not the only one who was like WHAT?!? when they found the 122 seat only adjusts that far back.
