Soo Kaplan and Towery are hittin me with this track day idea for SE5.0... Of course i would love to get a track day and think it could be fun and possiable.. There are a few problems 1 the track is closing for remodeling on August 1st and will pretty much push the SE meet into july which asks the question is mid July a serious problem for people????
Next and even more important the cost as of right now is at least "AT LEAST" 150 bucks a head and we must have at least and no more than 10 cars signed up and payed for in advance...

Soo just want some ideas this of course is not set in stone its only a feeler for some comments..

Thanks again
Sam Collier and Kenny Howard
your SE coordinator

what kind of "track day"? and as of right now, $'s tight, and getting the wagon ready for the trip to SE is job #1, so i'm out. unless work picks up like i'm hoping, then, the kegs on me and i'm in for a track day :P

and i vote for the non ".0" SE, i think SE5 would be pimp :P

So thats three of 10.

the good news is, after a couple months of uncertainty, the dragstrip will be open this year (new management, should bring an improvement in the overall experience).

But for the track day, peeps need to be ready cash in hand ASAP, its 10 cars but i dunno if they mind extra people spectating.
there is a downside to this, it would cut the traditional saturday party down pretty badly, as the track is around 2 hours from montgomery, and we'd be leaving at ~ 5am to get there by 8am with a group, to maximize the track time available to us.

I say we aim for an arrival of friday midday, party friday night, dyno on sat. go the drag sat. night, on sunday we do the track day.

I'm gonna throw this out for sam, since i heebed off with his computer and hes sprawled out on the bean bag behind me.

what about the track day on the following monday? its cheaper to rent the track on a weekday, it'd give us the regular SE activities, and then those interested in hitting the track can hang around, the rest can roll out whenever.

Monday works for me. I want the track day to be in addition to the regular SE stuff, not a disruption. I could just as easily do a track day somewhere else for similar money, but it would be a lot of fun to go as a group while we're down there.

I figured 10 would be easy....sam, kenny, myself, rob, ben, mike, mike, mike, mike, and mike.

Could 2 cars share one spot if they wanted too?

For instance if someone didn't want to run the whole day could they swap out there position with someone else?

Guys, it has just come to my attention that "track" day means going around in circles fast type racing... not going fast in a straight line racing.... I'm going to have to back out... if someone else wanted to jump in, feel free.

I will join the ranks of smiling photo-taking bystanders.

And the truth comes out.

You don't HAVE to drive 110%. I did a single 20min session on a course last summer and got stuck following a guy who drove slower than I do on the highway. You can be that guy, but just watch your mirrors.

yeah I know... it's lame as hell. ... I'm not saying it wouldn't be cool as hell to actually race on a track, it's just that I'm about to spend a good deal of hard earned money on bodywork\paint and I would hate to see it end up with a permanent crinkle-finish. My luck is so bad it is statistically significant...

That and I've seriously never driven fast in the twisties with other people present at the same time... the last time I've done that with others present was in a video game.

the 740 has been relegated to daily driver status... train station and back, junkyard and back type work. The 242 would be the track victim.

But... we'll see. If there are open spots when time comes, what little testosterone I have left may kick in and I'll anty up. :)

Like towery said, there is no one telling you, you have to go balls out. The track is the safest place to learn about your cars limits. 90% of the time there if you mess up you aren't gonna have body work to do...

If it can be on the weekend or moved to thursday or friday, then I'm in barring a big problem. If it's on Monday, I can't really take the risk. I'd really have to be back for work on Tuesday, and can't really afford to lose an engine out there on short notice. I could take the precaution and tow a car up there, but I don't think paying towing levels of gas money (I'm guessing like 15mpg while towing) to get there would be affordable when added to the track day.

So, one of those days, yes. If not, no.

I plan on attending this year but I doubt if I will be up for a track day. The dragstrip definately. As far as dyno'ing, there won't be much point since I have full access to dyno here at work, unless I stop being so lazy and actually hook Spark up, in which case I will have kenny/sam tune my car

I might be able to work this. My parents are moving back to ohio sometime this summer.... At this point they have too many cars and not enough drivers, and there are no plans to sell them off. So from what I understand they aim to truck them out. My guess is that if I drive something for them, they would help me get my car magically to Ohio, which is then only a day from hellabama. Still completly up in the air. Probably not even close to happening, just like the last two SEs. I really want to make it happen though.

Are spectators going to be allowed on the tracktrack day? I'm definately out for the tracktrack day because I just put an AW71 into the wagon, and I wouldn't go unless I had a manual tranny. I know alot can change in a few months though.

Ok, except Terrance.

The only q left for me is whether I'll be showing up in the 245, the 780, or Eric's 850. IF the 780 isn't getting terrible gas mileage (which it is now) by then, I'm gonna say that one.
