and dirtier than ever (washing the car perhaps as soon as tomorrow, schedule permitting)

gonna run it like that for probably the rest of the week (and sort out the rear suspension and perhaps my center support bushing) to give any leaks in the manifold a chance to ooze out enough carbon to be easily seen, but it sounds like there might only be one leak at a runner, and that could be the nasty re-used gasket (i left the new one at home  )
but yea, car runs alright on ****ty old gas, starts knocking around 8psi, but its good to have the 90 back.
and thanks to my fellow heebspeed member sam, for all the welding expertiese

nice
but please have sam weld you a custom IC pipe to replace those 30 hoses for those bends
wtf is the size of that downpipe

theres not an elegant solution to that problem. it'll probably be rectified with a different intercooler... coming soon.
and the dp is 2.5 flaring to 3 inch.

Glad it's back up- that should seriously spool up now.

new exhaust manifold and downpipe, after my SSAC failed misserably one month into its use.
theres not an elegant solution to that problem.
You can't spin the compressor by nearly 90 degrees, and have it feeding into a 100-or-so degree curve which points a pipe straight at the intercooler intake?
How's your engine bolted down? If I had bits of exhaust-system as close to the side of my engine-bay as your wastegate feed pipe, I reckon there'd be a "thunk" every time I revved it up; 'cos things would collide.

it does :) i think it spools faster than before, but the tach isnt hooked up - one of a list of issues, its gonna be repair work for a few weeks before I try and do anything cool, I gotta get a new wb02 sensor for the wb, theres a pretty nasty power steering leak, of course the car is filthy as hell, and I've *got* to do something about the intake. and I'll also be sizing for the powerstroke, but weighing my options there, not sure on it so we'll see.
the short list:
clean the car
come up with a fix for the "C" shaped rear subframe (hits the driveshaft on accel, really annoying)
iPd's poly motor mounts
might put the cleaned up wheels on the car
gotta do something with the interior. that might be what i do tomorrow after work.
timing belt and upper head r&r (leaks like a bitch)
water pump at the same time more than likely, the usual timing belt service bull****.
a better breather setup, likely off the valve cover honda style.
Bigger injectors
general engine bay cleanup, the car has been a mess since the turbo went on really, and i'm just not really happy with how it is right now. the engine wiring harness might be up for sale in the short future since its more 8v specific and some things dont reach very well.
When the manifold comes back off to check/fix leaks, i'll finish porting it out, clean up the welds a little and might try and find some sort of paint that'll stay on it. if that doesnt work it'll probably get header-wrapped, a shield on the turbo, and the downpipe wrapped. Gotta look ricer tight y0.
intermediate plans/spring break:
remote oil filter and maybe an oil cooler
new/different intercooler
driveshaft balance, and perhaps a better looking shifter (or at least something to cover that one up ;) )
anyone got a grey center console they're not using?

theres a TON more room than my 242 ever had. Plus, I think kenny has a seat of motor mounts he's testing for iPd. ;-)

it hasnt hit yet, and dont tell anyone but i dont have a bolt on the passenger side motor mount ;)
the intercooler piping discharging up top wont work, theres not enough room. the shoulda coulda woulda's with the manifold might have yielded something better, but we decided in the interest of what we had to work with, etc that keeping things similar to before would be a little easier.
the next manifold won't look like this, and the turbo probably won't be top mount either.

If I can find an 850 oil return line tomorrow mine will be going in the next day or so.

You've both made me feel a heap better ... it was something I 'knew' was going to happen, and was kinda dreading having to do something about it. :)

eh worst case scenario i'll get a generic body metal modifier and add a little more flex room.
or an engine strap

By "generic body metal modifier" I assume you are referring to a Variable Pressure Applicator? :-D

That's one of my favorite engine bays on TB. Good to see it's going to be making some noise again.
Enjoy the road,

I've got a bloody big stainless chain attached to the intake side of the block, leading down to the crossmember; with a turnbuckle so it could be tightened in the first instance. Figured that'd do the same trick, and hopefully save my mounts too. Still has some movement, and I've not looked at it on the dyno to see exactly how much it moves ...

no flex section in the wastegate discharge pipe? won't that crack?

flex pipes are too expensive for heeb speed, they will just take the current crack and weld it up.

Sweet work you two. All this 740 lovage makes me want to beat myself with a generic body metal modifier. Stupid pole. Once I have extra cash, I'll buy the 90 GLE down the street that doesn't run and start on it. Till then, bye bye 8 valve, I'll miss you.

those flex listed are very very low quality, the one i got has leaked from day one through the flex as there is no internal bellows like a good flex

1/3 of the collector fell off the front of the manifold, along with the external gate, so thats how that one went down.

kenny, i hope the WG discharge lasts, but it wouldnt surprise me if it cracks...it's the spot with some of the highest delta T's in the entire enginebay
