Just finished installing MS today, car idles like glass (when the egninges warm) and drives but definately needs more tuning. Thanks Kenny for the MS post 'how to setup megasquirt at least the one you got from me' or whatever it was called was really helpful. On a side note all you guys running Bosch 124s.... How the hell did you get those damn things to work. I started off using a 124, and yes I was using pin 5 as the trigger input, and couldnt get a spark (its not burned out cuz I was just running LH all of 3 days ago). Finally I gave up, rooted up the 139 I pulled out of an old turbo SAAB, switched the trigger to pin 6 and immediately started getting a nice hot spark. I remember hereing that the 139 module has less then ideal dwell settings, is this true? I reinstalled the dizzy, checked my ignition timing, and I WAS GETTING A SPARK AT 15*!! BTDC!!! With default spark settings on MS (except trigger return which was enabled). Is this normal? I remember reading some posts from some T-brickers that had a helluva time getting it to spark in the right place at the right time. Well after some playing around with MS I got a damn good hot idle. I don't have a fast idle valve and I havnt hooked up my 850 TPS yet, but it runs descently realizing its ben MSed for all of 10 hrs. I'll be playing around with it more as as soon as I can, any input from you guys that have allready travelled the road would be nice. Peace.

I never got the 124 to work. The 139 works great though. The best advice is to drop $200 on a wide band o2 setup so you can tune.

Congrats on your running AMV. Enjoy the tuning. I'll second the wideband advice.

The 139 is the better one, I don't think anyone is using the 124 anymore. I had the 124 working for about a year, it requires some wierd wiring that you probably weren't doing, but I'm glad you got the 139 working so easily.
Get a wideband, pronto.
Set your fixed angle to 15* then verify it at the crank, just to make sure that your engine and MS are thinking the same thing. Then setup your map, probably just copy something that other guys have posted here in the past, it should be plenty close enough to get you rollin. Cold idle is going to take you a while to tune, so don't let it piss you off that much, just do what you can and live with it ;-).
I think you told me once, but what city you in? Unless hickvill actually is the name of it... And '98 B230FT?? Wow that's pretty darn new.

i live in hickville too!
and where the heck in washington (or all of the continental US) did you find a '98 b230ft?
My just got all my wiring done for MS on my b230ft swap as well :)
Are you using v.3 or v.2.2 PCB?

Allready got Wideband, just forgot to list it in my mods list, its a PLX M300, one thing I was noticing was the wideband reads about .4 AFR richer then Megasquirt. Maybe I selected the wrong wideband, I'll doublecheck that. As far as ignition timing goes, MS thinks my idle is 10* but in actuality its 15*, I got the dizzy right in the middle so I'll probably just correct it by rotating the dizzy a little bit.
As far as the '98 block goes. Several years ago I got an (early) 1989 740 Turbo, when I read about the different years of B230s I checked my engien to see if it was K block, much to my suprise there was no embossed K on the block, so I checked for the bumps on the side. It had bumps on it so I just assumed that maybe some 89s got the newer block. Almost a year later I wrecked the red 740 Turbo and pulled the engine out to put in my '85 740 Turbo. When I pulled it out I noticed a Volvo Factory Remanufactur tag on the side of the engine. It had number showing what was changed when it was rebuilt. I checked the date on the block and it said '98. I'm assuming this block got fragged in a '98 940turbo (in sweden) rebuilt as a reman engine and wound up here through the dealer network.

Instead adjust your trigger angle in megatune until you get the same number of degrees of ignition timing in both megatune and on the crank(with a timing light). That window can be found under "Spark" in "spark settings" in MT.

That rebuilt block is pretty cool! And yeah, Ovlov is right, keeping the dizzy right in the middle probably gives the hottest spark and changing the value in MT is just as easy.
My tech edge wideband also reads around .4 different than megatune.
