I've got to put a temp sticker in my back window until I can get my car registered up here in Oregon. My back window is tinted limo black so putting the sticker in the window will net me nothing. I hate to have to untint the car but may not have a choice. Any ideas? If I do have to untint the window how do you do that - has anyone ever done it? I hear it leaves a god awful mess when you remove the stuff. Lemme know
Thanks
Renny

black garbage bags, ammonia and a sunny day. Mix the ammonia with some water and put it in a spray bottle, spray it on the windows that are tinted that you want removed, cover with a black trash bag, and let the sun do the rest. the hotter outside the better.

Damned Portland - what is a sunny day.. I expect one will come some day.
Thanks for the feedback. Any ideas of a way around this? How do I keep my tint and display the sticker?
Thanks

get a plastic paper cover that you would put in a three ring binder, put temp tag in that, then bolt it to the license plate

Soapy water to put it on, soapy water to take it off.
Peel and wash.

either that or keep rocking the cali plate until you get pulled over. ****, I was driving my 245 for several months with expired Oregon tags when I first got it (still insured, of course)...
I doubt you're going to have much of an issue at all...

What about laminating the temp sticker and taping it to the outside of the window?

Lord has a great idea there.
I was going to say zip lock baggie taped to the back window on the outside.
De-Tinting is a pain in the ass..especiall on the back window with the defrost elements.

Heat gun+razor blade
Companies make a solution to do it, which is probably ammonia.
Best bet, $2-3 at kinkos, get a hard laminate on it [a regular laminate fails quickly]

Just keep the temporary permit handy...like on the pass. seat. If you get pulled over just toss it on the dash so they can see you have one, that will be the end of that. Oh, and hope they don't bust you for the tint :-(

wait....
volvos get pulled over???
thought you'd have to do something really crazy, like have some dead hookers in the back seat while cutting across 5 lanes going the wrong way on the freeway, to get pulled over in a volvo......

Renny, I know it varies by car and police department (West Linn of course being the worst  ), but you may just want to throw it inside the back window and see what happens...I've seen a ton of cars with dark tint and you can only make out the outline of the temp permit. Of course, if you do that, it might draw attention to the tint being too dark. :-(
West Linn cops suck. How dark of tint is your rear window?
