Perform this modification at your own risk.
I claim no responsibility for the damage you may do to your car
It is very easy to make your factory corner lights clear by removing the amber reflector inside the lens.
The best way i found to do it is like this,
First take em out, it is real easy. No tools they just slide out, if you push from the back.
Unplug the bulb
Get a long screw driver and a heat source of some sort. I used a cig lighter but some kind of real torch would be alot quicker.
Heat up the tip of the screw driver until it is as hot enough to pierce the reflector.
Once you do, take the screw driver and poke the reflector thru the bulb hole. Press into the amber reflector. But don't twist the screw driver or poke through the outside clear lens.
Now hold it a minute to cool a bit.
VERY IMPORTANT STEP!!
Then set it down and let the screw driver cool off completely.
Wait atleast 25 mins or more, depending on how hot you got the tip of the screw driver.
If you don't it will just round out the slot you just made with the screw driver. You want it to crack the reflector.
Now once it's completely cooled off, twist the screw driver. If the screw driver is big enough it will crack the reflector almost completed and/or the reflector will just pop out of place. You may have to snap it with the end of the screw driver a few more times. But once the initial break it is easier.
Once the reflector is loose inside the lens, Use some needle nose pliers and snap it into small enough pieces to fit out throught the hole.
That's it, you're done.
Just pop the lens back into the car. Probably legally the best to use a amber bulb.
Good Luck.
If someone wants to and has some to donate to make clear I will take some pictures.

For what model car is this? I only pulled the corner off my car once, and the side of it fell off because it's soo old and brittle If it's for 240's i'm going to have to try this...but that's after I get my intake manifold back on my car :grrr:...

Myself I have done it on a 740 and a 940. Not sure if it will work on a 240 because I never tried.

Well I did it to the passenger side and it looks great...eventually going to go to the JY and find a corner lens for my driver side since mine is falling apart and too brittle to even take off. Then I might think about dropping in some chrome bulbs just for looks.
Nice post...thanks.

if i may add something to this...
the amber turn signal covers have a clear reflective piece inside of them. So instead of just removing the amber piece inside the clear signal, you can add a clear piece...
That was more confusing than it needed to be... so here are some pics...

With these 240 lenses, 90% sure it will work the same as described.

no, those lenses are one piece, so you can't have make clears out of 'em.
clear corners, nothing new here
but VOLVORacr those yellow center(fog?) lights are hot IMO, much better than the natural yellow :P

Really need to post some illustrative pictures. All the one piece corner lights have a amber reflector in them, unless they are clear already. What you will be doing is surgically extracting the amber reflector.

I was told something about baking the lenses...supposedly it cooks out the amber. Anyone ever hear of this?
A tuner guy I know mentioned it was on a webside...30ways to rice your car for under 50bux or something...but I've yet to find it.

I've heard that you can heat up the lens so that the lens can be removed from the base. Then it has to be glued back on. That seems like a PITA and you can't bake away the amber color.

Thanks I likes it too! :)

stylie, you bake the housings at like 200 or so for like 10 mins to release the adhesive that seals the cover to the housing.

Does it matter what type of screwdriver to use: flat head or phillips?

That's what was done to my 855. It was a pain, however they now look great!

I've got a 90' 240dl and my car had the amber reflector actually attached to the lens housing for some reason. I didn't have to heat up anything, just yanked it out by hand. Took me about 3-4 minutes to do both. It looks a lot better but I'm thinking of throwing some chrome amber turn signals in there so you don't see yellow when the light is off. I'll get pics in a while of my good lens since my other one is practically falling apart.

Is it imparative to wait 25 min? I waited 5-10 and it didn't work.

Yeah pretty important to let it completely cool.
If not it will just round out the hole and not break the reflector as intended.
The reflector may not break to the point where it releases. But once it snaps you can use the screw driver to break it more. Then when the pieces are small enough to reach with the pliers the reflector snaps very easily, best to use needle nose pliers with a cutter at the bottom.

I have done the heating, with a propane troch, five times and I have no big pieces, just a bunch of burn slots. Should there be big pieces that break out?

I took a good utility knife and slowly cut into the glue that holds the corner lenses together (old lenses on a 740 of course) - eventually pulling it apart - then just pulled out amber lenses and used clear silicone to glue it back together - They are still hanging in there...

my 91 740 has the same lenses as the 240 lense posted above (post #7) so it doesn't work. o well :-(

Finally got pics of mine, eventually going to get some chrome bulbs just for looks. And of course wash, polish, and wax my car for once :-P . Darn California weather is soo crazy, one week it's raining the other it's hot as hell.

I don't think this works on 760s, on mine the amber never came apart, it just cracked inside. Now I ruined a turn signal corner.

Sorry you had trouble, iirc the 760 has the same corner lenses as my 94 940.
Either way I have done this mod on both models, late and early.
If someone local wants to be a test mule, I will be glad to take pictures.

Heh. I did this by accident. Well, I mean I just unscrewed the covers to my turn signals and just slid the little yellow reflector piece out.
Looks pretty good.

On my volvo s80, turning the corners from amber to clear is just a matter of swapping out the bulbs. So I've done that already.
Only problem is, in the front bumper trim on the front sides of the fenders there are amber markers on the sides. I dunno if anybody knows what I am talking about, but does this apply to these as well?
UPDATE; just checked em, nevermind. the entire lense on it is amber and if I take it off I'll just have the black plastic mounting piece left. Oh well.
