thats is the question.
i know 240s dont have insulation and their paint seems to live for the most part.
i know that on a turbo car all the heat from the turbo WILL eventually burn the paint.
my jeep didnt have under hood insulation, and the underside paint was all burnt off but the outside paint was holding on by a thread.
so what about a non-turbo 740?
anyone have any experiance with this either way?
and incase your wondering why. i think the insulation is dead weight.

even on my turbo car, where i've had the thing glowing on many occasion...
with no insulation, my hood's paint it fine.
although, it's not exactly much weight saved, i tossed it for that very reason.

I have a 740 turbo, I took mine off nother has happened yet. Mine was a big oil sponge. mine was kinda heavy, but no big deal.
want to save weight go get fiberglass fenders and a Carbonfiber hood, your wallet will be lighter too.

Took mine off the 764TIC, no problems, I like the look and the CBV sound echo echo echoing.

Insulation makes a pretty big difference in sound level, and weighs like less than five pounds. I'd just keep it.
and no removing the insulation won't f up your paint.

can really hear the injectors clicking away... and the valves (if the silencers are toast, like in mine), with the insulation removed... thought i'd +1 that noise thing...

I removed my insulation cos it was saging, The car is Black and on a sunny day the underhood paint just above the turbo got cooked, so I but there a fire resistant insulation that is used in construction. It weighs the same, but does a realy good job. Now I can't see rain boiling of my hood.

The hood insulation is designed to act as a fire blanket in the case of an engine fire, so I have been told...
