Me and my lousy gas mileage still! Anyone in the Denver Colorado area that can help out? A case of beer and some pizza is up for grabs (maybe some cash too!). The car is up and running. I think it's running pretty good! I'm doing something wrong if the gas mileage is so lousy!

I got my MS finished up a couple of months ago, and been checking out the gas mileage, and after a couple of tank fill-ups, the gas mileage came out about 21 miles per gallon (and that's highway mileage (65-75mph-criuse rpm is around 3500rpm)!-I drive 60 miles a day on a fairly flat, with a good flowing highway). I was hoping for more like 25-30 miles/gal.

I changed the AFR to run at 16.5:1, ran a couple of tanks, and the mileage changed only to 22 mpg. This gas mileage is awful!

I don’t see any problems with the datalogs, and the car seems to run fine. Much better than the carb setup, but with lousy gas mileage? I can’t see ripping out the EFI system, I have $1500 and 100s of hours in it, but the car isn’t economical to run. At this point, I can’t say this MS project is a success!

Does anyone have any suggestions?

The setup is:
-'65 122 with a B21F/M41 (stocked, not modified normally aspirated engine [4-cyl 2100cc])
-LC-1 WBO2
-MS V2.2 running MSnS-extra (24s13) fuel only - tuning with MT2.25b514 and VEXME
-original '79 Bosch iginition setup from a 240
-Bosch 21lbs EFI injectors
-Volvo 850 Bosch TPS
-EGO crossover is set to 3.25v
-K&N air filter

I've checked the error on the odometer at around 3% fast, and the speedometer is around 5% slow. Which I find acceptable for a 40+ year old car.

I figured that a 122 weight (122 weight 2400 lbs vs 240 weight 3000 lbs), running EFI, and a WBO2 sensor would produce better fuel economy than the original K-jet setup (B21F with a M46 gets about 25-28 mpg?).

i would think that the problem lies in the stock ignition setup. Running on the edge of knock leads to the best efficiency and mileage doesnt it? Thats just my guesstimate. Run some seafoam through it too :)

Threw in a can of seafoam into the gas tank.

I haven't recalibrated the LC-1 WB02 since I installed it in Oct. Someone over at msefi.com suggested doing so. So, I recalibrated it today. I also replaced plugs/cap/rotor.

Any other suggestions?

BTW - I'm sure integrating the spark with the fuel would increase fuel economy, but the stock ignition setup should still produce better fuel economy than 22mpg.

After recalibrating the WB were your readings any different?

Maybe? When I was recalibrating the WB02, I found that the LC-1 wasn't set to instantaneous, it was set to something like 1/12th sec, but I did set it back to instantaneous.

The car did run a little richer, but I don't know if it was because of the recalibration or setting the response back to instantaneous. I have to see if my mpg improves.
