View Full Version : spring break: goodbye Z06, hello good-handling 855

I have been driving the 855 on no rear bar and one missing front endlink since I bought the car. It wallowed around a lot and wasn't a whole lot of fun. I put on my IPD HD links and an IPD rear bar. It world's better now, the handling matches the motor much better. I also replaced the outer tie rods and aligned the whole works.
I also installed a real boost gauge to prepare for some engine tuning. I will give it the full tune up when summer gets closer (stage 0 i hear ppl say?). Good news: 18 inHG at idle, about 9 psi max boost with spikes around 12. about what should be going on, so that is a relief.
Finally, I took some last pictures of the Z06 before it got put on a truck bound for Canada. It was a really good car, I will miss it.
Full details (mainly photos) are on my site under the appropriate menus....

the ferrari is awesome to drive, but strange at times. on the track it drives itself, there are never any surprises.
neither are fun to work on, in fact. everything on the volvo is rusted and over-torqued somehow. and the ferrari. ha! the engineers stuffed things anywhere they had space. ie, the battery, on a razor sharp metal tray that slides out from in front of the front wheel. you basically need to take the wheel off to even get at the terminals. there are additional terminals in the engine bay, but still. silly italians, its as if they were designing it with only performance in mind. sheesh.
i can say the 855 is a lot more enjoyable now that the body roll is in check. i still have the mr2 as a fun car tho, i dont think the volvo will ever see the race track.

I'd have gotten rid of the Ferrari myself, worth more and the Z06 has more potential, thouhg you can get Twin turbo kits for Ferrari's, least it's not RED!
I say get rid of the MR2 and invest in a full race prepped 242 with a 2.5 6TT....:P
Also, as far as rusty bolts go, W.D.40 is your freind, use it well :p

I restored a 308 for a friend. I'm not sure we were friends after that.

Sorry I like Volvos alot but I would take the Z06 ;)
I work around them just about every day(corvettes, camaros, trans-ams)... I see the power potential with Z06's and it's great...
But I guess if you've already got another sports car gotta change it up somehow. Fun :)

the 355 is more fun, but we had both cars on the track in Oct, and the Z is faster by a noticeable margin.
the Z06 is about the best hooligan car tho, u get most of that 400lbft at idle. its stupid.
we got rid of the Z b/c it isnt so special to drive. the 308 was more fun. its the whole experience, and THAT SOUND! the 355 has full tubi, and its all the better to play schumacher with....
it wasnt about power. stock for stock the Z was faster anyways. we thought about a TT package for the Z, but imo it was too fast to have fun with on public roads anyways. and on the track, you could be competitve leaving it in third the whole lap. boorrrinngg.
and i cant see selling the mr2 and building a 242. i love the light weight, instant turn in. my mr2 is around 2100lbs, and i shift at 8200rpm. its a blast.

At least it's a 355.
I'm generally against anything newer Ferrari, but the 355 is a nice looking car. The 360... yuck. The 430... yuck. F50... yuck. Enzo... yuck.
I got to go on a short drive in my friends Fly Yellow 355 F1 Spyder, nice car, just not for me.
I'm more of a F40 kinda guy if I had to pick from Fix It Again Tony's garage. Race car for the street. I'll take mine in Black. :)
The 575 Maranello would be a nice driver in black over red. I'd almost buy one of those (if I could afford it). At that price though I'd rather have a one-off Ruf built car.
Some of Ferrari's older cars (think 60's) are truly beautiful, but so were a lot of euro sports cars of the same era.
For me, what it boils down to is that I could have the ultimate 242 in my garage that would make the Ferrari a picture in my rear view for the $100k (give or take $20k) that a 355 costs.
Do I have a Ferrari chip on my shoulder? Maybe. I've always "hated on" them since they were almost always red, my least favorite color.
EDIT: Advisable to dis-regard my ramblings as I'm on drugs from being sick. :-P

hahaha nice.
the f40 is my favorite ferrari. ive been smitten ever since i got a ride in one on the track when i was a kid. it did everything a ferrari should and didnt pretend to be able to do anything else. we dont need no stinkin door handles....
i have to admit i like the 360 a lot. not a fan of the 430. but hey, i think the 250LM is beautiful, and the 360 hints at that quite a bit....
ppl are saying the 430 is faster but more refined and tractable than the 360 was. esp. when it comes to the motor. screw torque, i want that screaming peaky power. i want the stab-you-in-the-back oversteer. manettino-whaaa? i have all the traction control i need in my right boot...

I've always loved the noise of a V8 or Diesel engine to the high pitched wail of a Ferrari and the like motor's, I really don't think they sound nice.

I think Ferraris sound great. i just don't think they are worth all that money. Nice car, but I would have kept the Z06, and I hate GM.
I think you are better off with the 850 anyways. Stealthy.
