so we're in the process of color-matching various trim pieces (mostly the chromey ones) on our 765. painting is fun, but lots of work. probably one of those modifications that is worth every penny and every second used to be done correctly.

so in the spirit of my new epiphany: how much does a sexy, high quality paint job cost? i'd probably have to completely strip the interior and engine bay and everything to have it done correctly huh?

here's a crazy idea: can a body shop just strip the remaining clear coat off my car, and respray some coats of clear to bring back that lustrous shine? has this been done before? i'm such a nub when it comes to car paint.

i really like the factory color though, sexiest volvo color IMO, so new clear would make me giggle with joy...

Depends on how much money you got :rofl:

just kidding. I know kids who think 1k will get you a good paint job, but they are smoking whatever i stole from my parents. My car has a 5k paint job and it shows, www.cardomain.com/id/ezgoingsince03

I think you can get a really nice paint job for about 2500-3k from what i've heard from people at shows and around here (Central Valley, California)

Try to see other jobs of that company who does your paint job...usually a guy who has his own paint shop and is the only employee or theres a few can give you the best around but cost more...

<----EDIT---->

DONT FORGET TO ASK FOR A CAN OF TOUCH UP PAINT AND THE PAINT COLOUR CODES WHEN YOUR PAINT JOB IS COMPLETE.

I had my car painted by an independent guy who had much experience, but was just starting his own business. I stayed with the original metalic grey color so I didn't have to mess with door jams and the engine compartment. He used a high quality two part base coat/clear coat. I had him install the body kit as well as do a bunch of little odds and end stuff to the body.

Charged me labor at $16/hour plus materials (~$1000). Total cost was $2000. If a normal shop charges materials and $50/hour, my job would have cost $5,000. Other shops gave me $4,000 to $5,000 estimates.

take care,
simon
