I threatened to do this, so here it is.
I must say, it looks better in person, colors change/dissapear.
I sand blasted it, and sprayed acid-etch primer, for adhesion.
Pewter base coat, then red flames and burgundy flames.
I used a template(stencil) for the flames. I cut it out of a piece of cardboard, after drawing the flames.
A coat of pearl in clear was put over the flames for depth and to make them more subdued. It was the second step for Nissan Pearl White 3-stage. As the light direction changes, they appear to change.
I used this effect on a blue flamed bike frame and a black/reds and burgundies helmet in the past. It is a free-for all, unlike taped flames, which are tedious to lay out. I usually wait a while to calm down before spraying the clear, 3 coats.
My wife said "it looks pink". My son loves it.
Oh, and the cap looks funny because I used it to keep paint off the gasket surface, then wiped off most of the red and pewter with reducer, then left it on when I sprayed the pearl and clear.
