View Full Version : alright help me out...
Okay so i made my first post about 2 months ago now. Had just bought an 850R... well guess what... about 2 weeks into it a momo red neck in a huge stinkin 2500HD diesel with farm bumper backs into me at about 20mph.... roughlu 8,000$ in damage... Anyway it's all fixed now and it's time to get back to working on my car...
I'm having a real problem finding good wheels for the 850R, why is that? they are a +35et off set right? there doesn't seem to be a SINGLE good forged wheel for this car... BBS makes ONE wheel that fits (the RK) but it's a cast wheel and only an 18x7.5. - Everything else I can find is a fairly low quality wheel, and often considerably heavier than the stockers. The biggest reason I need to upgrade is the 205/45s are driving me nuts, and 215/40s aren't much of an upgrade. I'd like to be on 225s if at all possible.
After the wheels, I'll be doing chip, exhaust, all the normal small stuff - we'll see where we go from there..
If anyone is interested in pics from before the accident, right after the accident and after it's all been repaired let me know and I may set up a site... The repair was actually pretty dang impressive and they did a fantastic job - I did take the opportunit to upgrade to an IPD grill, changes the way the car looks, I like it.

Why do you want to change your wheels? Everyone is dying to have the wheels that you have on your car...

HRE makes great forged wheels, and they'll custom drill if you need a different bolt pattern or offset. Sure, its not cheap, but I don't think thats an issue when you're looking for forged wheels in the first place.

Those wheels on a C70 = what dreams are made of.

The primary reason I want other wheels is width. 17x7.5 only allows (reasonably) a 215/40 tire - The next reason is of course cosmetics - 17s on a car that has a wheel well the size of the 850R's is just not enough, it really needs at least an 18, and if i didn't feel like 19s were so bling bling I might go there....
I'd like to be on an 18x8.5 if possible... 225s +..
I did look at HRE, but at between 1100 and 1900 per wheel that's a bit more than I want to spend on wheels.... I could go 5-600 but, 1900?

oh and fyi it's a 96, red, and has volans... which are pretty, I'll admit just not enough wheel for the car imo.

you can fit a 225 on a 7" rim without much problem. I run 18x7 coddingtons with 225/40ZR18.
Coddington can make almost any offset yoou need and will drill whatever stud pattern you need. Remember, Boyds wheels (now coddington wheels, same people diff name) they built a 855R with a black and Yellow paint job and 18" wheels. If I have to estimate cost, I would put it at $400 per wheel 18x8. I actaully know a few in the Family so I got a good deal. If you e-mail me, I can see if a deal can be made for you too.

Ya I have 225/45's on mine with no problems. You could probaby squeeze 245s easily.
I have 235/45's on my S60 which I believe is 7.5" as well.

HAHAHA, yeah, what did happen to James. it's the age old question that philosophers will be pondering for at least 100 millenia.
Well, since I came from a school of 50 graduating seniors, it was a very small school. So we knew everyone very well. The funny thing was that I did not know Chris's dad was Boyd Coddington Sr. Until at one of our soccer games, Mr coddington rolls up in a Ferrari with a set of his rims. I swore up and down to one of the assistant coaches that the car was a fiero with a ferrari body. And the coach said "uh, no, thats real" Chris actually graduated a year before I did but he was in the same math class I had and he was dating my best friends sister. Cool guy, and even though his dad at the time had mad cash, he drove in a beat up camaro till he graduated, then he got a brand new 92 eclipse GSR awd. That got crashed by a friend so that was replaced by a Corvette. The corvette was then sold since it was so unreliable, and he now drives an accord with the exact rims on my car. Same custom set up. The funny story is how I hooked up with chris when I was ready to buy my rims. The wife of Coddington Jr, called into my work and got my wife. My wife remembered that I liked the wheels and that I had a late connection to the coddington family, and got me the direct # to Chris. He saved me $400 on the purchase on the rims so, the family has hooked me and my best friend up with rims. Very strong rims, ask Patrick about the time at Thunderhill that I wacked my rims on the top of the hill and did not bend my rims. Besides, everyone knows someone, at one time or another.

what makes you think you cam fit that wide a tire in there any how? I don't know crap about the 850, besides that its wrong wheel drive.
I do know that I have 225x50x16 on 16x6.5 hydras tight fit, bit a fit none the less. Also they rub like hell, In just about every place they can except the top of the wheel well.
so are you sure you can fit 225? just something to think about.

225 width tires don't fit most 850's w/o rubbing.
Centerline will make wheels for the 850.

I had 225/45/17 et36 on my 850, which resulted in a lot of rubbing...

Try your local Volvodealer!
Thay made some wheels for 850 that I think was 18"x? and also some other models of 17" wheels to fit the 850/S70. One of them was a BBS split wheel. Lovely thing that one...

so is the consensus that 225s won't go on the R?... man that blows.
so what 215/35 or 40 18s?... I think i need to swap the hubs, go with a more standard bolt pattern too... nice wheels on volvos are few and far between....
Not lookin to buy HRE's or anything custom because it's just not smart - I could put that money towards ummmm paying off debt for example ;) 500$/wheel give or take is my limit....
