View Full Version : 3 cheers for T3, 60 trim questions

So,

today I found out that a Ford .60 A/R compressor housing bolts directly to the same backing plate as a Nissan .42 A/R compressor housing. Both of them use the same 60 trim wheel, so I dont even have to take the turbo off my car to go 60 A/R (that rhymes.)

However, I'm going to be taking the turbo off anyway to clean up the ghetto port job I did on the 90+ about a year and a half ago.

My question is, what to do with the ford compressor gaskets on the inlet and outlet.... just make em out of gasket paper?

BTW, mods: i guess maybe this is maintainence? sry

Haha, I hate those gaskets, and even more so, those flanges. Yeah I usually just make them out of gasket paper, maybe a thiiiiiiiin layer of RTV to seal it well, though that doesn't really matter. Probably more mess than it's worth.

I used high temp RTV stuff.

Nice info to know. Sorry to kinda thread jack but I have been wondering this for quite some time. Are there any other .60 trim housings besides the ford one and its silly inlet/outlet flanges? I think some/all of the nissan 300zx had them, but those aren't exactly easy to find at the junkyard. Any other ones that could be easily sourced?

the nissan T3 that I have is a 60 trim 42 A/R compressor, so its the same housing as most volvo T3s, just machined to fit the wheel that the ford uses. it was a pita to remove because nissan engine bays are THE WORST IN THE ENTIRE WORLD

I realize that. Sounds like a good choice, but I'm trying to build a full out .60/.63. Don't think I'll have to deal with nissans though since I just saw that the 300zx I thought would work have flanges on them too. What I'm really asking is: Are there any .60 trim compressor housing that don't have stupid manufacturer specific flanges on them? And if so what vehicles did they come on, and/or where can you buy one?

don't worry about the flanges. ATP sells adapter flanges and if you were really cheap (like everyone here....) a welder or hell, even JB weld can make you up a suitable flange in an afternoon.

Fel-Pro makes a nice kit for the ford turbocoupe. I got it from the Fel-Pro website for like $12 shipped. The kit includes both of the gaskets you are talking about, an oil feed and return gasket made from that really nice coated metal stuff (like EGR gaskets), and a nice beaded turbine inlet gasket. I don't have the number but just look the kit up for an 86(?) ford mustang 2.3 turbo.
