Planning for some minor improvements for my 945T. Just got myself an NPR (23 rows not 27 rows unfortunately). I already have a Greddy EBC. The next piece of my puzzle is an exhaust upgrade.
Do you think it is better to get a CAT back exhaust or a 3 inch downpipe. I am trying to build a daily driver that is not loud, looking pretty much stock - after all the wife drives it during the week to ferry the kids around.
Also I live in CA and cannot find a 3 inch CAT that is for CA. I need to pass CA smog test so any suggestion on where to get a 3 inch CAT. Thanks
After this exhaust up grade, I might go for the chip upgrade that but I understand that i need to buy 2 new ecu (one for the LH and the other for the EZK).
My eventual goal, which are relatively modest by the your standards, is to get a 0-60 in under 7 seconds and a 1/4 mile in 15 sec or slightly below that. The car must look and sound pretty much stock and must be reliable.

muffer wise get a dynomax oval for the rear and another one in the center(oval works best for ground clearance tho you can just use a round there for a stock hieght car) and then a dynomax bullet muffler after the cat and before the center muffler .. that'll give you w big muffler and that small one to take the bite out
will still flow great and sound will be very quiet
total cost
$80 for oval
$80 for round
$40 for bullet muffler
and then add in $80 for cat
and then some $10 clamps from summit (or you can use u bolt clamps or have it welded)
and then a downpipe (from me of course) $165
if you want 15's all you SHOULD need to do is turn up the boost. with a stock car just 15psi via MBC i ran 15.19@89mph on my 91' 740turbo
otherwise a full exhaust should push you into the mid to high 14's
depending on what kind of mood i am in @ the time and how much you want to offer me i could build the whole thing for you and have it all weld'ed up with 3 points that it all comes apart in so you only need 3 of those clamps(i'll include them) so it'll bolt all up to your car ... no idea what i'd charge for a full exhaust but hey the more people ask the more willing i'd be to build one( mainly for those that can not get one built locally)

Magnaflow 94009 is on my car right now. You won't be able to find a direct bolt-in 3" of course, but 91 doesn't require an OBDII cat, nor a cat with air injection. Even Summit has em.
Personally I'd go with a 3" full system. Experience tells me the SAM single-muffler one is quiet and really woke the beast up. Idle is just a hair louder than stock outside, same inside. Mild throttle is the same inside, and it only gets louder than stock when you're really into the boost.
Seems like they should run around $400 on this GB, plus 4 clamps from Summit (far better than the u-bolt clamps that come with the kit), and a Magnaflow cat, you'd be into it around $500 for a complete 3" turbo-back system.

3" DP before a cat-back, but you may as well spend the $$ now and get it all done.
My setup ... Mike's DP, pipe, cat is a Carsound #94409 (resonated version of the 94009), pipe, over-axle pipe, and the muffler is a Dynomax #17296 (all stainless Ultraflo). Cat/muffler from full-line exhaust), pipes from Jegs (no shipping surcharges), and all parts are band clamped (from Summit).
