Hey guys and gals,

Im looking to finally MS my 780 in a month or two when I pull it off the road to do a rebuild on the engine. Ive been reading over the MS site and trying to figure out what I need to get the job done. Im probably looking to get this unassembled kit:
http://www.diyautotune.com/catalog/megasquirti-programmable-system-pcb22-unassembled-p-28.html
I would like to go with MSnS if possible, but just wondering if its worth it and what does it involve? Is it just programmed onto the MS chip or is there a separate unit? If you guys can let me know what else ill need to get the job done, it would really help out. Thanks

Do more research. Use MSnS-e or MS2

dont try to build it yourself unless you have experience

Well what about just getting the assembled on then... You gotta start somewhere otherwise you'll never learn.
Anywho... Ill get the MSnS code loaded onto it when I order it.

Anywho, so far this is what I think ill need (let me know what im missing):

Assembled MSnS-I System - http://www.diyautotune.com/catalog/megasquirti-programmable-system-pcb22-assembled-unit-p-34.html

Wiring harness - http://www.diyautotune.com/catalog/megasquirt-wiring-harness-ready-p-43.html

MS Relay Board and Cable (Will I need this or can I use the current stock one in my car?) - http://www.diyautotune.com/catalog/megasquirt-relay-board-assembled-unit-p-32.html

i ordered my kit from protocar.net, the wiring harness and the assmbled MSnS v.3 were flawless

So will I need a relay board or can I use the stock one?

Thanks for the link to protocar.net. They have some decent prices.
I guess ill go with the "MegaSquirt I v3.0 ECU Assembled" set up for the hall sensor.

i did not use a relay board

You don't really need a relay board if you are wiring it all up yourself, although I guess it might make the wiring cleaner and easier, I've never used one though.

I HIGHLY suggest that you megasquirt your car and make sure it runs BEFORE rebuilding the engine. Nothing sucks worse than starting a fresh new rebuilt engine on an un-tested EMS that isn't working properly.... Been there done that, and it did suck.

Ill take that into concideration... Im planning on going to the pick-n-pull next weekend and picking up a 93+ block for $45CDN :)

Quick question on the side:
How long you guys figure itll take to rig/wire up the MS&S and get things running?
Im looking at doing it in June, and by suggestion, the rebuild shortly after. I may just do the MS, drive it around for a few days to get it up and running and then do the rebuild.

PS Congrats on getting the B23F together, sounds like you're having fun with it

Hehehe, new engines are fun :-D. They just keep finding me, I'm working on my third build right now.

When building the wiring harness for your MS, just leave the car running on LH and lay the new MS wires over top. That way, when you're ready to fire it up on MS, you just unplug the LH harness at the injectors, TPS, coolant, etc and plug in MS. And if MS doesn't work right at first, plug LH back in and run to the parts store!

Alot of people seem to like to dig into things headfirst, rip out all LH crap, then they complain when their car doen't run for a few weeks. If you slowly get your MS setup overtop of your LH, it shouldn't take you more than a week of taking your time.

Gotta love the TB veterns! Those are some good tips.

Being one of those people, I've got to say that it takes patience and luck. I just got my 1989 Bertone running on MS&S, but the hardest part was converting everything from the V6 to the I4 setup. Starting with a turbo car and only changing the EMS is much much easyer.

I recommend you don't buy the wiring harness, but clip into the factory wiring harness at the LH and EZK connections. Most of the wires are the same, and it's realy easy to run a few wires from the EZK to the LH connector through the dash. If you want to be able to revert back to LH then buy used fuel and ignition computers and use their connectors to plug into the factory harnesses. This is what plug and play EMS is all about, and you will only have to run a few extra wires to the engine on the passenger side.

When I wired my Bertone, I used the factory (white) fuel pump relay, and the factory power circuitry for the O2 sensor and stuff, but used a relay to invert the ignition switch wire to megasquirt. Brickboard 700/900 FAQ has some nice wiring diagrams for 1989 cars that will be VERY useful when you try to plug into the factory wiring.

Good luck!

PS. Don't forget to get a Bosch 139 ignition module and switch the trigger wire.
