i dont know if this is a Megasquirt or not, but i will post here
so the other day, an oil line broke loose and shot oil all over my engine. luckily i caught the problem fast and no damage was done to the engine. (my fault, i claim responsibility for this eff up)
when i went to start up my car today, it just cranked over. im pretty sure it was no spark rather than no fuel, but i dont know. possibly oil leeked down into the spark plugs?
the weird thing is that if i turn it on, crank, off, on, crank, off, on, crank, off, etc... 5 times or so really fast, then it will turn on and stay on. im very sure that MS is getting the required voltage.
any thoughts?

It sounds like MS is not getting power during cranking; you get some fuel to shoot in during the initial startup, and once you load enough go-juice in, it will fire up.
OR - for some reason you're not getting power to the coil during crank, but you get the priming pulse on initial key-on... enough of those, and when you stop cranking (but the engine is still turning) it lights off.
Basically two sides of the same coin.
Easy enough to check - see if you get an RPM signal in megatune during cranking, and make sure you're getting 12v to the coil + during cranking.

thanks for the info kyle, but its mutated into something different
so i let the beast cool off for a while. when i went back to start it, its a completely different ball game now. It will crank and give a lil put instantly, but when it fires up it seems like its running backwards or only on 2 cylinders. either way, it feels really rought and choppy, and then dies like 4 seconds later, and if i rev it, it stays choppy, just a faster chop. the engine shakes very violently. AHHHHHH. i reverted back to an older .msq file that i know perks up right away, but still, no change.
EHHHHHH
if 2 or more of the sparkplugs are completely fizzucked could that cause the problem? it really feels like a spark issue, as fuel would not make the engine buck and rock like crazy at idle

alright, so i did some more dinkin around today
i replaced all the spark plugs, so now i know that isnt the problem
it isnt running backwards either
but it isnt firing cylinder 3 & 4. i leave the 3 & 4 injectors unplugged and it will crank and fire up on cylinders 1 & 2 but like any car thats running on just half its cylinders its really.. REALLY rough. at least i know that 1 & 2 are getting spark & fuel
im gunna try upgrading to the latest code, maybe that will be the pixie dust that i need

upgraded to 029q, lots of pretty features, but i cant take advantage of them!
still firing only 1 & 2
Next im gunna check to make certain that 3 & 4 are getting spark, and then pull the injectors to be sure that they aren't screwed up

this is turning into my inner monologue
just checked spark with a spare spark plug, all of the cylinders are getting spark. note to self, dont hold the spark plug wire, even if it looks child safe and rubber.
fuel injectors up next...

Do you have 3&4 on their own injector bank? Maybe you fried a FET somehow. Get a noid light and see if you're getting pulses to the injectors. If that's what happened, you should be able to put all four injectors on the 1&2 bank and be good to go temporarily.
Are you 100% sure you have the plug firing order correct?

i will grab a multimeter tonight and check out if 3 & 4 are clicking
im VERY sure i have the firing order correct, but it havn't actively checked it.
is there any downside to running simultaneous off of one bank rather than alternating off of 2?
it started raining yesterday in ye grand ol seattle so my progress was hampered

mwahaha, in the middle of the impound parking coralle i found the problem
bad solder joint between power and the injectors, only the front 2 injectors were getting 12v. I knew those butt connectors were better...
but i couldnt drive it off the lot :( i was ****in around with MS in the past few days too much while i was oblivious to the bad wiring that my settings (like trigger angle :grrr: ) were all fudged to hell
well, now back on my bike to get my laptop, then back to lake union to hopefully tune it out of impoundment!

holy **** this has been a rough time, good luck, i would suspect the tune last for any problems that pop up out of no where

back in my possession, drove it off the lot :)
just needed some changes to the spark and off she went
now to end this rather unfortunate strand of events with a MS'ed turbo wagon in back running condition
