I'm at the point in building my MSII v.3 board where I'm putting in the output system components, and I'm confused about which idle control to use. I'm putting the MS into an '81 242 that has K-jet, so I have the original K-Jet idle valve, which I understand only needs 12v, and no input/output to MS at all. I also have some LH 2.2 IAC valves at the ready. Which should I use? Is the 2.2 a "PWM" motor?

I'm not very familiar with MS2 but MS 1 can run both 2 and 3 wire valves IIRC. I believe the 2 wire valves are preferable to the 3 wire. LH2.4 came with 2 wire valves and lh2.2 came with 3 wire.

I tried the k-jet system... I found that it was ok on start up until things warmed up and then the car barely idled. My solution was to drill a small hole in the idle valves inner plate to let more air pass when closed.

Ben's talking about the CIS system on k-jet 240T's.

I talked about doing this when I MS'd my car, but was talked out of it by a few board members. I wish I wouldn't have listened to them though because it was a great idea.

Anyway, you live and learn...

Guess i'm confused... what does this k-jet stand alone idle system look like?

Why did others think drilling a small hole was a bad idea?

Guess i'm confused... what does this k-jet stand alone idle system look like?

On the k-jet cars and on some LH cars, there is a standalone system that uses a tach input and idle switch to activate it. The three wire valve controls idle just like other three wire systems. The thing is, it is a really common idle system found on Saabs, Volvos, Rovers, etc...

So, the parts would be cheap and should be pretty robust since this system was used for so many years. The black box that controls the system is usually located on the passenger side kick panel of the 240. It is smaller than the LH computer and was also manufactured by Bosch.

Why did others think drilling a small hole was a bad idea?

When I said "they thought it was a bad idea", I meant that I was told that MS had an idle function and that retaining the standalone constant idle system was a bad idea (or maybe not bad, but not needed at least)
