Leivon and I were out in Abbotsford BC junkyard hunting, got to this one yard that only had one volvo, an N/A 740. But on their shelves they had a verrrry nice volvo 42/63 turbo complete with pre-90 volvo manifold and wastegate actuator and everything. It spins super nice, no in and out play, a wee bit of up/down play but that's normal without oil. The interesting thing was the oil drain tube.... In classic Turbobricks fashion this is how we found it, still attached to the bottom of the turbo:

Tons of JBweld, this is OBVIOUSLY from someone's F+T attempt. There was JBweld on the inside of the hose , maybe to stop it from leaking. No thought was put into where that JBweld will go when it cracks off and travels down the hose...

That is sooooo turbobricks, everything down to that red high temp hose. What makes me curious is that
1. there aren't really any members in that area, not any active ones that I know about anyways
2. if someone's gone through the effort to do an F+T, obviously themselves, why or how did the car end up in the junkyard?
3. where's the car? how come only the turbo made it to the yard? This didnt' really seem like the kind of yard that gets rid of a lot of cars.

But the funniest thing was when we took it up to pay. Leivon thumps it down on the counter and a few of the employees start eyeing it saying stuff like "ooh that's a nice turbo, what's it off of?" Not asking us, but asking themselves. This one guy, ohh man he must live in that yard, older guy walkin around without his shirt on, long hippie haircut, huge beer belly, grease and dirt ALL over his body and arms, a real winner here. He takes one look and says "That's a DODGE turbo".
I said "volvo maybe?"
"nope, DODGE, no doubt. For sure, it's off a dodge."

Riiiight buddy. It got the word VOLVO cast into the exhaust manifold, but I guess it must be off a dodge.

It's a sweet turbo though, it'll turn Leivon's 242GLT into a whole nother beast, especially since that car comes with the B23E (10.0:1, flat tops, 405 head, K-cam). Between that, LH2.2 and some suspension work, it'll be a sweet ride.

Classic oil drain hose setup. I love it. Great to hear Leivon will be boosting his brick.
That guy saw the world through his rose colored glasses for sure! It's a Dodge turbo when you can read the words Volvo on it is one of those priceless moments.

just because there arnt people on t-bricks that live near you, doesnt mean thatt there arnt volvo people near you.

I run into volvo people all the time at the junkyards near me. some know of t-bricks and hate it, others had no clue.

lets just say isaac isnt the only one in fl with a 84 beige 245 F+T

Since when did t-brickers use worm drive clamps? a true bricker would use zip-ties. this is the work of an impostor.

Or, they didn't want to pull the turbo to replace gaskets or get space/access to do other work...

i just did this same set up on my car... although i didnt JB weld the middle hose part...just around the block return...

love when people say the wrong things at JY's...it's quite amusing...next time say really? you sure? what kinda car does it come from? oh yeah, what years? wow that's cool that you know so much, you really know cars eh?

wait for the "yee--up"

then throw in the "well i'll see you around...by the way this is volvo turbo mated to a 1990 and onwards turbo manifold which flows better than the pre 90 manifolds, it has a better collector....etc etc etc...but i am sure you already knew that" :-P

Yup. I used to replace drain lines at work that looked like that allll the time. Moron would pinch/roll the o-ring in the bottom and just give up.
This was in Vancouver and they weren't tbrickers. :-P
Just cheapasses not qualified to do their own repairs.
