Well we're shaping up to have a lot of people going to this thing, and a decently large tenuous Florida contingent has mentioned things to me.

So far, the guaranteed goers (IMO):

Isaac
EricF

beyond that, we've got a lot of maybes

Volvoman37
WPHSMike
Nick

Ned Flanders

There are a couple from the tampa area I've also heard wanna go.

As is, Eric's car is going, which should really only max out at 4 guys. If we need another car, I'd very much like my 245 to be it, though it doesn't have AC. Hell, neither does Eric's. If we wanna save gas, we can just pile into one or two cars. If not, caravan it is.

If your car is running well, the trip should cost you ~$100 in gas if you go it alone. If everybody chips in, and we've got 4 people per car, it gets cheap in a hurry, and it's definitely well worth it. This is the time of your life, people. I guarantee it.

So who's in?

I'm almost certainly going. Kevin is working on getting time off and I'll be confirming dates on saturday. Its likely that kevin and his g/f will be w/ me in my car. We may have a last person tho, I'm not sure yet. I'll keep this updated as I get info.

So, here we go. I really want to go and I'm sure my parents are going to be cool with it. I am like 99% positive they will. So, I can drive my car, which I really want too, though it probably won't keep up with anyones here. But, I think it's possible Alberto is coming with me, if I don't kill him by the end of our Euro trip.

So, isn't there supposed to be some sort of Orlando meet before we go or something?

And now for the good news people!

My car still runs!

I'm hoping to have air conditioning by that time... Actually within the next week or so. But that's been the plan since I got the car last year

I'm definitely down though, ain't nothing gonna change that. And you all best make it your business to be down too, because if you are down for one thing in your life, this should be it.

Come on guys, let's get this going.

Should we take 75 up?

Are you guys leaving Friday? What time? I personally can't leave work probably until 4 pm. It should take about 8 hours to get up there, give or take (from tampa).

What are all your thoughts?

isaac
07-03-2006, 03:59 PM
Here's how it works: We're gonna have between 2-3 cars going unless some guys are nutcases and insist on driving themselves or are too out of the way. If you live in the Orlando area or are willing to rendezvous in the Orlando area, then you can ride with the main group.

Depending on speed and stops, the trip (barring catastrophe, which we've had happen) will take anywhere between 6 1/2 and 7 1/2 hours from Orlando.

The main group will need to make a consensus on time of departure and return.

As I see it, there's a mix of two main options for departure:

1: Leave Thursday in the early afternoon and showing up Thursday night.

2: Leave Friday late afternoon to accommodate those who can't get off work earlier, and showing up after midnight Friday (aka Saturday early morning).

Then there are two return time options:

1: Leave Sunday early afternoon to arrive back in Orlando Sunday night, thus forgoing the Monday track day (which is already fully booked so you can forget about driving on it)

2: Leave Monday afternoon after watching the track day at Barber Motorsports Park.

As you can tell, this can be arranged in multiple groups, but I think it can be done fairly easily. You ride in a Thursday or Friday car to get up there, and come back in a Sunday or Monday car.

It all depends on how many people and cars are going, and who wants to carpool. I'm perfectly down with a carpool, because it's more fun and saves money.

I'm down, and at this point I plan on riding shotgun in Eric's 850.

I will get my way, no way in hell im missing this. If I can go, I should be able to take some people. Let's see, I have a 940 sedan, so it's me and who else needs rides. Aight G's, here how isss goin down:

At the moment I see about 4 cars heading to SE5 passing through Orlando alone. That's Eric's 850, Mikes 940, my friend Andres' 850, and Nick's/Kevin's car, whicheva. The only reason Mike wants to drive his slowass 940 is because he's a biatch, so we're gonna talk him out of that, then he'll ride with Eric or Andres, and I'll ride with the other one. He's paranoid of new people, so that means he's riding with Eric, and I'm riding with Andres. Costs will split up bipizzle style, with 50/50 on gas money.

At this point I don't care too much if I have to leave Friday, but my preference by far is thursday, and it looks like most of the cars are leaving thursday. Most are returning sunday so I have no probs there. I say these things from my perspective because I'm bumming a ride.

Hey. I am back from la la land, trying to figure out what the heck is going on.

Everything should be good for me, but can't be 100% right now... And have no idea on timing. As you all have heard me say, this is one of my most anticipated events of the year in my life every year since I started going, so if it can work I will make it do so.

Car has been acting up lately, definitely needs some degree of attention before making a trek like this, but I am all optimism... Tomorrow I might be able to figure out the work aspect of things when I get back to that place for the first time in a week and a half, then I just have to sort out car issues and possible family issues that probably won't really concern me. It should be all systems go at that point! You all better be ready...

To anyone on the bubble for going to this. I ran this track a number of years ago (pre changes) in an S2000 and it's FUN! 3 of the corners were Banked back then. I can't speak for the new layout but the old layout was a Blast to drive. The banked right hander on the back straight was fun sideways at 100 or so.

Not to get into anyones bizznaws here, but being as I am from Bama and have lived in Tampa now for about 4yrs aaaannnnnndddd have made this trip no less than 20 times in the past three years( drove it 2 weekends ago from Huntsville to Tampa)...if you guys will check your map and turn west in Tifton Ga and go through Albany and Columbus Ga. you can really save some MAJOR time. Pick up 85 in Opilaka Al.

Its a MUCH nicer road as 75 is torn up from Valdosta to Atlanta right now.

I think Tifton will cut off at least another 45-90min for you . Too many cops through Dothan and Troy. Alot more Stop Lights too.

How many hours are you averaging and at what speed.

My mom and Dad tried that route a couple of times before they were convinced. BUT! I would hardly use their driving style as anything to be compared against.

You're gonna need pretty thick skin and possibly a gun or nunchaku to try bringing chicks other than your girlfriend that you want people to keep their hands off of, Mike

Ok, so maybe I should leave them behind. One for sure wants to come really bad. She is very untouchable. I'll see.

So, am I getting to make the solo journey then?

Fine with me, long as I caravan with a tow-capable Honda or something. Speaking of which... Anyone got any ideas where we're meeting up with various people on the expedition? I'm aiming to leave tomorrow around 1 or 2 p.m. ASSuming my car works.`

Damn, this is really getting confusing as to who is riding with who. If Rob and "the girl" aka Brea ride in my car, then there is space for one more. We just need to try and get this worked out tonight. Because we want to leave tomorrow around 12-1 and we still have to tell Rob where to meet me, etc. These things usually come together last minute anyways, lol.
