hey, i figured i'd post this in wanted. i'm looking to start up some sort of local massachusetts volvo enthusiast/tuner group..anyone interested? i'm working on getting something together, we'd have meets, photoshoots, and of course SMALL decals :-P
not looking for any backlash here, just if anyone was interested.
I'd be interested if close enough to Nothern RI.

im pretty close to northern RI, i live close to woonsocket. i wanted to keep the team name "team ecr" (east coast racing). i have a myspace group with that, and have for some time, but recently i wanted to make it strictly volvo tuners..any ideas for a different name and logo, or keep it? check it out on myspace for view of logo. we could do low commitment, and new england too. i just thought it would be cool to have a new car group in our area.

ok so it looks like so far we have a total of 10 people from TB. i was going to shoot for a meet sometime this summer. this will give us all some more time to do a little more with our cars. i.e. i am getting tint, rims+tires at the end of july. how does the last weekend in july or first weekend in august look? and by then i will have some team ecR decals made and pass them out too.
btw, this is what the team ecR logo has looked like. i;m thinking i will change the R with the volvo R.

Count me in as an interested party.
One thing that has crept into any conversation I've had with VS people on this subject is the lack of a place where we could meet to do mods, maintenance, etc. It would be a big leap forward if we could do something more than meet for food & drinks (not that there's anything wrong with food and drinks ... especially drinks!)

Yes. "Northeast"
http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/northeast
Although, people/companies bend the rules with grammer and caps for marketing/printing all the time.
Other substitutes might be....
Nor-East(ie: direction of a compass) or New England? If it's still a "Massachusetts" thing it could be, "Bay State" ?
Another idea is to take the Swedish flag from the Volvo940tuner logo, insert the six state flags that make up New England in the "white" sections. Not sure if it would look great... but its an idea, right? All the state flags have either blue or white backgrounds so I'm sure somebody could photoshop it. Get the Mass flag in the upper left & Rhode Island flag in the bottom left because they both have white backgrounds. Then 2 "blue background" flags in the upper right and 2 in the bottom right.

Really, how interesting. What qualifies your car as a race car exactly? Does it have a cage? Do you have interior? Can you drive your "race car" on the streets? Do you have a fuel cell? Can you click your belt on or do you have to find all five or six pieces of it first? Do you have a radio in your race car? What kind of racing do you do? If you wrecked your race car would you still be able to go to work/school the next day? Is the paint/body free of dents and scratches on your "race car"?
Somehow I doubt you have a true race car.

I think you're missing the point. You would never find my race car on a pike to be passed, because it can't be driven on the street. It goes to the track, is raced, and goes home on a trailer. I don't know about this guys cars, but most people that say stuff like that don't have anything that qualifies. The questions remain, all of them really. That kind of answer doesn't tell me anything.
PS-What on earth is a meow-meow? I haven't a bloody clue, must be some foolish MA toss that I'm not familiar with. I'm assuming it refers to a car, though I don't know what car you mean, I have a bunch.

i dunno about teams and racing and the like - but burritos and beer, some tuning time, maybe swap-meets, that's probably pretty feasible.
logo sounds fun too, why don't we all do a little something with it and post some reults.
in a week or two we can have a vote and pick something out and make some stickers, if people are interested.

i feel like there might be an age gap here and thats where the flaming comes from.
maybe the younger kids want TYPE R VOVO, where as those who are a little older see things more in perspective. or atleast some people here know enough to label themselves realistically.

Came up with a few ideas here on illustrator today (havent used that software in a while, so my skills/creativity were lacking)
Any suggestions and I can play around some more tonight:
This one needs to have the text on the bottom flipped so its easier to read... didn't think about that when I was making it.

I'm so simple.
the circular emblems just dont do it for me, not because they are bad but because i cant figure out where i would want them on my car. something long and thin can sneak into the body lines of any volvo alot better. especialy if the sticker is going to be on the side of a car much as a "team" logo would be.

I'll look around for some more "aggressive" fonts - unfortunately the base illustrator file is on my work computer - so I can't do much tonight, and I prolly can't add fonts since I dont have admin access (on a school network).
One thing to keep in mind is that the font that you have which is all jagged and stuff has a few things working against it:
- Logos need to be clean and simple - they are small and people only get a glance, so an easier to read font will be better
- Fonts that are more "complicated" like that dont flow well with the simple lines of the design
- The "cleaner" the font the more it appeals to all ages/types of owners/participants in the club.
jrocheunh
06-27-2006, 09:29 PM
Two designs, a long thin one and a circular one could be done. I have contacts at a company which can basically print anything on anything - we use them for all the give-aways at my radio station (and I am the primary contact with them).
The questions would be:
Would you want these to be the type of stickers that go on the inside of the window and are semi-translucent (think VCOA member stickers)
Would you want these to be die-cut stickers that are opaque (derrr...spelling?) that go on the outside. (everything cut out individually - i think like the turbobricks stickers are)
I think that bumper-stickery versions might not look as good - backgrounsd stink!!
I imagine that the die-cut versions would be more expensive, but they do look good, and window tint doesnt hide it.

Also important - what do the most people want for a name:
New England Volvo Club
New England Volvo Owners Club
Northeast Volvo Club
Northeast Volvo Owners Club
Northeast Volvo Enthusiasts
Team East Coast Racing (aka ECR)
East Coat Volvos
East Coast Volvo Club
East Coast Volvo Owners
etc
etc.
Perhaps we need to start a poll?

Just my opinion, but I like that one the best. It's clear, simple, and the colors are bold. The black/white and blue/yellow are great, and that is the perfect blue shade. But take out the word "owners". Well, I guess wording depends on whatever the club gets named.
Thanks for coming up with some cool ideas.

Its like $19/car to race or something around there.
and its not worth getting to at 10.

i started installing stylin intercooler and vac. hoses. I have half of it done and it wasn't as hard as people have said, but I have yet to tackle the intake hose.
Next is jacking the car up and installing the lower intercooler hose and adding an mbc.
I am working on stage zero and need to look into an oil leak. I am hoping it is the oil return or feed line and not the RMS. If it is the RMs then it goes to the shop :(
After stage zero:
-new turbo: maybe just a 16t b/c they are cheap will hold boost. I'd really like an 18t or 19t, but they are money
-new DP and 3 exhuast
-remap
-Wide band (this will be the next buy)
-ebc (maybe?)
I am more then open to suggestions and help on moving forward with my DD project

Done:
Stage 0
EST Intake
strut brace
HID headlights and fogs
To be done by the meet:
Rims, Tint, hopefully bilstein and 1.6" drop, blah blah blah
To be done whenever i get the freaking money:
Engine rebuild and M56H swap (nothing special, but anythings better than auto)
turbo swap (either generic 19t or GT28)
airflow work (better dp and exhaust, custom exhaust manifold, larger TB)
injectors (465cc)
innovate stand alone kit
rica or upsolute chip
mbc
custom rip kit (i like they way they look, but EST RIP kits suck) and some sort of fmic
cant wait for the meet :)

I'm gonna do a getrag swap but I'll be reusing my driveshaft so I'll need to do the install (everything, trans, shifter, weld and the **** together and whatnot) one weekend and then get the driveshaft resized and put in the next weekend.
Anyone got a place I could do this? I'm willing to drive and I have gear-head friends who also have cars, so a little distance shouldn't be a huge issue.

I might not have a garage(my 780 is taking that real estate), but if it's warm enough we can see about doing it in a driveway somewheres. I've got jacks, jackstands, 15mm and 17mm wrenches, ramps yadda yadda. I even have a piece of metal attached to one of my jacks that is shaped like the botom of a Volvo transmission to cradle it. ^^^ a couple months ago a lady driving a Ford Taraus thought it would be a good idea to slam on her brakes & come to a complete stop in the fast lane on 93 North. I almost was able to stop in time.... so close.... but her rear bumper went over my front bumper and whacked the upper portion of my grill... pushed it back maybe an inch. yah. why have i heard that a regina turbo is not possible? please no BS i'm trying to figure out why
Its obviously doable, it just hasn't been done with sucess.
following how people turbo honda civics while piggly backing on the stock EMS is the best bet IMO.
the problem: regina measures manifold pressure to determine how much fuel to inject. REX does not measure airflow directly. REX uses the O2 sensor to trim itself to adjust for varying conditions. according to the internet the REX map is not defined for positive intake pressures. what happens at these positive pressures is really not known to me. but as long as it doesnt cut fuel you can probably trick your motor into getting the proper amount of gas under boost.
Its also not really known how much REX can trim for fuel injectors bigger than it expects.
replacing the MAP sensor with a 3-bar GM unit followed by perfectly matched injectors with a lower pressure fuel pressure regulator followed by a rising rate fuel pressure regulator HAS to work as long as you measure air fuel ratio and listen to knock. but its still a PITA solution that prob wont run as well as a LH car.
