View Full Version : Leivon's 242 project...ftw?

Just thought I would share some pics of my current project car. 242 GLT n/a(B23E).

The rims are 16" and called Regulus. The tires are a really low profile because im a moron...205/40. The speedo is off by a lot because of this.

As it sits there isn't any real performance mods. The airbox has some holes in the front of it and I took out the middle muffler to replace it with a piece of pipe.

Suspension:
dual sways 21,21 up front and a single 23mm bar in the back from my GT. Back springs are from the GT and have not been altered. Fronts are the original springs that came with the car cut down 2 active coils.

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b350/ebe240/IMG_0159.jpg

Flathood is from my gt but some of it got f'd up in my last accident so i had to cut some of it off the corner. If anyone has suggestions on how i should go about fixing it Im all ears.
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b350/ebe240/IMG_0167.jpg

Prelude seats are in. I bought them over a year ago and had them in my wagon but I got in an accident with that and they sat in the car and got a nice thick layer of mold on them. It was gross.
Anyways, cleaned them up, redid the fabrication of the mounts so they are solid... I'm good to go!

One final shot...
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b350/ebe240/IMG_0176.jpg

Future plans:
Convert from K-jet to Lh2.2 and turbo the car.(I have most of the parts needed waiting on a couple different odds and ends.) (No i wont have a turbo car for this years PNW meet, sorry guys)
Front springs from the GT. (cut down of course)
Paint the whole car Flat Black.
Tint- 5% back three windows.
S80 (or was it S60) e-fan.(already have that... thanks jordan)
Get John (TheAspirator) to teach me everything I need to know about MS and then run away scared, screaming like a little girl.
There is a 3" cat in the mail coming to me but I don't know if I am wanting the whole system 3". idunno.
Angry eyelids.
Cut bum-bum cheeks.

Updates will come as I get off my lazy ass and do things.

Wow looking good! I also really like the color of the car.. (although I suppose re-spray with that color would cost alot more).

If the back was a touch lower stance would be perfecto.. but everyone has their opinion on ride heights. Did you repaint the wheels? They look deadly.

Can't wait to see it in person!

the back... meh, to each there own... on level road i like the look of it... in those pictures its on the grass and kind of hard to tell how the stance is and such.

the wheels were painted before i got them. Bought them on here from DEM80240WGN.

Looking forward to seeing everyone this year too. Are you coming out with the calgary guys on the friday night to my place?

Mesoam- I don't need anymore suck... i have enough on this car as it is.

My electric fan install went very well. Fiberglassed the **** out of it and bought all the proper wiring and relays. Thanks for that diagram John(aspirator) it helped a lot. The fan is from an S80. Im happy, but im pretty sure this is going to eat the brushes on my alternator.

here is a pic of the wiring

And here is the fan installed
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b350/ebe240/IMG_0196.jpg

I was reading a thread regarding cone filters or something and i ran across a pic of Towerys intake setup. From what i saw he used an intercooler pipe and the rubber hose clamp to attach it. Then has a piece of wire mesh to act as the filter. If it's good enough for him it'll sure as **** be good enough for me.

Note*- it drops down attaching to a stock NA plastic intake pipe that sticks out a little hole and is covered in wire mesh. Sounds really cool.

I was out there 10 hours the last two days and roughly 14 today dealing with this rusty POS. The body still needs some final touches before paint tomorrow.

Here are a couple pics of the hood. It was just a rush job with fiberglass so it doesnt line up very well... Eventually Im probably going to buy a new flathood or redo the body work to this one.

wow. That hood looks straighter or as straight my hood/front end which I have been working on atleast every other weekend for several weeks. Mine wasn't even missing a corner and I raided another 86+ for most of a front clip to start out with as many straight panels as possible.
I look forward to the painted product.

So the car is painted and ready for the PACNW meet.

Unmatched wheels are for the lose. Had a bit of a problem with my fourth Regulus rim on ebay and they shipped it out late.

The stance has a bit of a rake but you can't really notice because the huge cheap tires up front and the tiny 40 series tires in the back.
Enough with the talk, here are some pics:

Got my exhaust put on
2.5" from the downpipe back to a single dynomax muffler in the rear. No cat. The sound is really loud but i expected that. Feels good to drive though. Nice throttle response.

Update:
My fuse holder for the E-fan busted the other day and i overheated. Luckyily i had a spare fuse and some electrical tape with me so i ghettoed it back together and limped home.

Glad to know you like the sound John, i was worried that it was too loud and when turbo time comes around it'll be even louder. Good to know it'll be soundin' poifect.

Gonna do some wetsanding and post up some more pics in a couple days or so...

stay tuned.

The Aspirator

Hope you didn't overheat too badly! What caused it to break? Like I said before the plastic 30 amp relay that I'm using to power my S80 fan melted yesterday, so make sure you plan an upgrade there too. I noticed that Digikey has 70amp automotive relays. Right now I'm using a power lock relay, woot!

RE the exhaust, yes a turbo ALWAYS quiets things down a whole lot. With an N/A car you can pretty much hear every single exhaust pulse and it tends to sound raspy up top. But when you gather all the exhaust pulses together and wrap them around a turbine wheel, it really cleans up the sound and gives it a much smoother and quieter tone. You'll love teh sound.

Leivon
08-15-2006, 05:49 AM
I didn't overheat at all really, i just saw the temps rising a lot higher than they should and didn't notice the volt drop when the fan is supposed to kick in... pulled over... waited... checked to see that the fuse was blown because the case was cracked. It's actually been doing fine with the second fuse and the taped up case. I'll bring the case back and see if i can get a new one for free. It broke because i didn't secure it down and it was moving around and probably smashed into the battery or the back of the headlight.

Im very tempted to take her off the road and do the turbo thing right now. I have the intercooler and all it's piping, Injectors, proper intake mani, lh 2.2 wiring harness and a spare lh 2.0 wiring harness, an amm, turbo 2.2 computer, turbo and manifold, stock downpipe.

The only things missing are: fuel and oil lines, resistors for the injectors, some fitting to tee off the oil feed and oil pressure sender, and uhhh, oh figuring the best way to run my return line and getting the proper parts.

This is just some late night rambling, no pics with this post, sorry.

Yeah dood, lets do it. It is time for you to enjoy the wonderful world of boost. Tell you what though, this friday we should go to the track and you can time your car N/A. Then we'll boost it and come back in a few weeks and see the REAL improvements.

Resistors are easy, find a junkyard and snag them from a turbo 700/900. They look like 4 cigs strapped together and I think are by the battery. Oil feed is easy, fittings for it too, Lordco will have that junk. The only tough part is the oil drain, but even that can be simplified:
1. Figure out how you're going to drain the oil back into the block (pan or block)
2. Do it.

Pan would be easiest and I think it would work well for you, just make sure to get it as close to the top as you can fit. I can come over and bring my welder when you're ready. I'll help ya look the car over and we'll figure out a "to-buy" list, then we'll go buy all the little stuff. Yeah, lets do that. I *might* be able to spare a day this week, how bout I come over friday morning, we'll do this, then head to the track? You need boost man, it is time.

Kyle we did go to the track before the +T but chicken legs up there didn't have a battery tie down and I know the tech lines would have kicked him in the nuts so we decided not to run his car. It's unfortunate too cause it went from a normal fairly slow N/A (all N/A's are slow, haha) to a QUITE QUICK TURBO BRICK!

Levion!!!!!! SOOO JEALOUS!!! Now yeah, go get that handling/braking department under control before next year. And make sure you don't blow it up! B23E! That's some nice stuff with boost I'm sure... Probably doesn't want to run very much boost at all though, be careful! How much are you running so far? Which turbo? Did you mate up your 2.5" exhaust to the downpipe? I'm thinking about getting a 2.5" made up now to put on before I go turbo, and leave it while turbo as well. Possibly a 3" downpipe though.

Kickass!

Nicely done on the +T. Sorting out the LH gremlins can be a bit of a pita. It really doesn't like if the CBV is super tight, non-existent, or if there are vac leaks...ask me how I know.

Oh, and I blew an M46 months after putting it in at stock boost. It was a tired M46 that I shouldn't have put in the car, but still..I was a savage and broke it. I retired my last M46 due to whine and excessive bearing slop leading to slipping out of gear. Interesting pattern eh? Sigged some of that.

The Aspirator

Leivon is lazy so I'll answer some of these questions for ya. When we first got it going it was running 6-7psi according to my autometer gauge, and Leivon flogged the crap out of it on the very first drive. It's quick. Then I gave him a Saab plastic CBV to replace his 100lb 740 one, he said the car is WAY quicker now, like the old one was bleeding off or something. So now according to a volvo turbo gauge with a Dave Barton white face on it, he says it's running 10psi. I didn't hear any pinging but I didn't get a chance to listen thaaaat close. YOU ARE RIGHT LEIVON???? It's fast, and he drives like a savage. He's running the .42/.63 stock turbo with a 740 downpipe mated to his 2.5" exhaust. It sounds great.

945ti
09-14-2006, 08:25 PM
If adjusted a bit loose, the peirburg can allow more boost bleed than you want, and more than LH wants too. Really though, I found best response with no CBV. However, this does ugly things when you let off the gas in gear and your turbo probably doesn't like it much either...I think you drove mine sans CBV and found that out.
I <3 the stock pierburg. Works fine on my car, but my car is now becoming stockity stock stock. I haven't tried a snaab plastic CBV since I now just have the overbuilt pierburg mounted on the head just like a bone stock 740T. The later style pierburg is significantly better BTW.

The Aspirator
09-14-2006, 09:23 PM
The snaab ones rock, my fave by far, especially open dump with megasquat.

Yeah when I drove your 945 it either had no CBV or you were getting AMM fuel cut, either way it was a horrible buck. Back to stock eh? Well that's just no fun... hehehe
