Haha Newman's own! It took a little bribe with the wifey so I can stay home and enjoy my new toy. I went out and bought a Recaro baby seat, 2 Sony PSP's and gave up my credit card so she can head out with the kids to Indiana without me. I'm still deciding if I will leave this weekend but it depends if I can get this car 100%, right now the clutch seems to be soft and may need a replacement. I already ordered a CenterForce DFX clutch and paid overnite for it so hopefully that will cure the clutch issue. I also have a GN guru looking over for anything that the motor will need to insure me it won't break down. My fingers are crossed so we will see wutsup tomorrow. This evening I went looking for some rice action, didn't really find anyone to play with ..... I guess noone took me serious because I drove a Volvo:lol: Well anyways I decided to run her a little hard and I was simply blown away from all the power this V6 can put out. It immediately made forget I was driving a Volvo and seriously it made me a little nervous, just kinda had that feeling cops were around but I couldn't see them. After my short burst of fun I decided to head to the car wash to take a few pics. It started to rain so the pics may seem a little fuzzy. As I was taking pictures sure enough I had a cop stop in the middle of the road and I believe he was watching me, I think he may have a heard my burnouts so I didn't stare nor did I ever look over at him. I continued to take a boat load of pictures and thought about a plan if the cop decided to come over and investigate. I would of told him that I was taking pics of the wagon to sell on E-bay and if he was just waiting for me to leave so he can pull me over I knew by staying put on private property that there was nothing he can do except if I did something stupid. I put a couple quarters in the vacumm machine so offically that made me a paying customer. Anyways he was parked for over 30 mins. and all I could do was wait for him to leave so I can head back home. Funny thing though I decided to pop the hood open so maybe he can see that this was not an ordinary motor. :badboy: I guess you can say I was toying with him and I felt I needed a little of that before I headed back home. He finally left after a small type car speeding past him he took off like a bat out of hell, that was my que to be gone from this place. ;-) Well peeps enough of my little excitement of the night here are a few pics of my Salad dressing

Oh BTW the first thing I did to her was to tint it 20% all the way around and completely debadge the front.

Damn...looking good at night! Who did your tint? ...that is next on my to do list, I aint gonna play around with dark tint on the front windows though (even though I think it looks so badass)...one more thing for VA cops to ticket you for.

So one of these days we need to take our wagons out for some fun...too bad I have work, a bachelor party, a wedding and a deck to stain this weekend...so I am booked for now but we will meet up soon enough, maybe we can get some video footage to show these people some fast bricks from VA!

When I lived in Va Beach I would always wash my cars at that Freedom Wash, always at like 11pm or some odd hour, and usually see some nice lookin modified cars up there as well.

We are plannig a trip to the 1/4 mile not this friday but next friday the 25th for test and tune, we will be caravaning up to Dinwiddy, probably about 6-7 cars maybe more let me know if you are interested and we can work out the details...I just want to be 100% sure we are going before I post it in events thread...

Have fun with her and try not to break the rear end! (or anything else)

Later,

Jon

Here's a few pics of the motor. She's dirty as sin and I hate a engine compartment that looks like crap such as this one. I'll get her steam cleaned soon and maybe add a few pretty parts.

Hey Jon the tint is home brew, I had a buddy that came over and did it at my house. He's been doing most of his life on the side and he's the only person that does all my tint.

The rear won't break, it's been beefed up internally and added posi. The only thing I'm worried about is twisting the front frame and killing the clutch. Clutches I can live with, anything else it will be major. Let me know if the dates are good but I'm not too sure about those dates, I might be somewhere out of town. Let me know either way.

Watch our for your rear right suspension parts...that engine has a bad habit of breaking things back there. All the twisting ya know. I wouldn't be surprised if after it while it started to lean back to the right lol.

That is one stuffed engine bay...and damn it looks nice. Need to take that beast to a dyno and see what it's layin down. What boost you running it at right now? And what's the turbo on it? I can't remember.... I bet you could put down 400bhp with a little tuning.

Yeah man I worry about that, I'll have to give Ben C a call to make up some beefed up parts for me. Just have to find time to go to his shop and carck that whip on his a$$.

The engine actually has pretty decent room and many have told me it looks like the motor belongs in there. I had a mechanic look it over and saw the chrome Volvo V6 cover and thought it was a Volvo V6 .....until the master mechanic came over and said, " Boy that's not a Volvo that's a Grand National motor, are you stupid" It was funny and imagine him saying that with a redneck country accent.

The dyno testing will be down the road, I will need time to get use to her, not sure how much boost she's getting, I just need to learn how to use the Scanmaster to tell me that and seriously 400bhp is attainable with these motors, just need to apply for more credit cards.

I'm willing to bet that you can get 400hp just by tuning it. Computer stuff, up the boost a little bit, and bam you're there. There's a guy around here with the equipment to tune them, I'll try and get his number for you if you'd like.

It's the V-6 Sequential Fuel Injection (SFI) turbocharged motor that was run in the Grand National (GN) and Regal Turbo-T at a rated 245hp and 355ft lb. The same motor was also in the GNX at a rated 275hp and 360ft lb. The power differences were all controlled by computer tuning. They are completely tunable. It is believed that a stock GN engine is capable of 400hp through tuning alone.

the specs mentioned are underrated. The GNX and GN numbers were for insurance purposes and GM didn't like the idea that these cars were faster than their top of the line Corvettes.

I have to say, the GNX is my all time favorite/wish I could have one some day car...basically only because of that engine. To have one in a 740 wagon...I would have no more reason to live, my life would be complete. I hope I never get one :)

BTW, what's with teh "Newman's" references with this car I've been seeing?

  having this wagon makes me want to live fast. I'm glad I was able to get it and I just hated the fact that the previous owners weren't true enthusiast. Funny thing that you wrote about your life being complete. I feel my life is pretty complete and I have 3 kids so my life isn't done yet....... I have to stick around a little longer for my kids.

The wagon was owned by Paul Newman (actor/race car driver). he bought the wagon in 1988 and had his crew and another company name HESCO build the wagon with a 1987 Grand National crate motor. There's a story behind why he had this wagon built. Paul was living in Cali and was driving around in a Porsche motor built VW, he would go out and race every nite and would beat them silly. Word got around about this VW and noone wanted to race it anymore so all the fun disappeared. Paul always had a heart for Volvo's so one day back in 88 he decided to piece together a Volvo wagon which he knew noone would take notice and at that time the Grand National was one of the hottest cars so that was the deciding factor on what engine this Volvo would run on.
