View Full Version : Does a crank pulley from a B23 interchange with a b230?

Sorry, I'm not sure if this belongs in the performance thread.
Hi,
I'm trying to fit a 60-2 ring to the crank pulley of my b23 (Got the ring from a bmw.)
So now I'm going to machine a big lump of aluminium to make a crank pulley and that it also accepts the 60-2 ring on the front of the Pulley. (Kinda like Dale's style although mine won't be underdrive.)
The problem is that I only have a b230 Crank Pully as a sample for machining. (I need the b23 running so can't take it off.) So the question is if the Pullies are the same (fitment to the crank nose) on the b23 and 230. I'm already running the A/C, powersteering brackets from a b230, so noworries on belt adjustment.
Thank you.

The crankshaft snout is a different diameter on the B23 and B230.
The B23 then has a small hub that bolts to the crank, with the pulleys attached to that.
The b230 uses the harmonic balancer/pulley arrangement, so its different.

So a b230 pulley won't fit on a b23 snout? Is this right?
I just thought the diameter of the mainbearings were different, but not the snout.

Completely different animals in that regard.

Isn't Dale working on a EDIS trigger wheel for the B230 right now? This might help solve the problem.

It will not fit.

why not use a 60-2 flexplate/flywheel off a 89+ n/a or 90+ turbo volvo? well make sure the car has LH 2.4 ... but if it does it will have a 60-2 flexplate/flywheel on it
sure it is a lot more effort .. but might be cheaper than having something custom made for the front

Umm, actually, I do have a 60-2 flywheel attached to my car now. But I have this big lump of 6series aluminium sitting here. (7" in diameter and 4" thick) And I have a 60-2 trigger wheel from a bmw here. I just thought it'd be better if I have the sensor infront of the engine as it will be a pain to access in a 2series volvo.
(I do the machining work myself...hehe... too much time on my hands.)
But now that I can't use the crank pully on the b23, I'll just save the aluminium lump and make a pulley for my 16v engine I'm putting together.
Cheers!

Why can't you use the crank pulley on the B23?

Follow up... PICS!!!!
Well, my alu lump is going on the 16v engine.
So for now I did this.
(Chopped a bwm crank pulley to get the gear... turned the volvo A/C pulley abit, then did made a semi-press fit to get it fairly aligned, and welded 'em together. Then I turned the tone-ring abit to get it alighned the same as the A/C pulley.)
Sorry, I'm not the greatest welder...haha.
