We are building a race car here in Davis! Me along with John Pagel of Evil Genius Racing, Lee Cordner, and a few other people are putting together a race car effort for the 25 Hour of Thunderhill Enduro race this December. Its a fun project with a fairly good sized budget from the VCOA and Volvo Cars NA for the most part.

The Plan (tentitivly):
B230Ft or 2.5Lt Volvo Penta Stroker Bottom end
16 Valve head
LH2.4 FI
M41/OD Tranny
Ground Control Coilovers
Advanced Design Shocks
ipd Front Sway Bars
RX-7 Front Brake Calipers
6+ sets of wheels/tires (rain/dry)
Red Bull/S60R AtSpeed Race Car's Paint Design... half blue, half silver
and more... cause we could be going on for a while on every detail... plus we're still deciding on some items...

Expecting to make about 200hp in a 2100lb car.

Here's what we started out with:

It was in very good condition with very little rust...

Off to get sand blasted...

And as of today, here's the roll cage:

grrr, pics are having some issues...

You best be keeping us all informed on this beast!! Should be a pretty quick car with an AQ171 in it, especially with a little tuning and massaging!

a custom tune will help A LOT with making more power with that setup. not sure LH will be able to run properly

LH is dumb, do a standalone and dyno TUNE it.

Yes, and you will get a lot more then 200RWHP and more usable power, which is always good.

Awesome!!! You sure you didn't mean 300HP?? You know you can get 200 out of a b20 w/ ease. Seems like a lot of work for that kind of power. I'd also go w/ a m400/10 because they can hold the power better. But that's just me. Yesterday I was looking at the b23f+t I have out of my old 242 sitting next to the 1800.... HMMMMM...

looks like a good start... you better get busy if you're gonna get that put together and tuned by dec. though

Trust me! we really want to!!!! REALLLY!!! but just the time constraints... we only have till december. We dont want to spend a lot of time tuning. Atleast this year it wont have MS, maybe later in its life. Also this race is an Enduro, so we dont really NEED a butt load of power, we NEED it to last all 25 hours... which is why we're also using an OD tranny. So we dont keep it revving up high all the time. A half second or more on lap time slower will be worth it if we can make it to the end... especially if our competition breaks...

I tuned my car in a week of street testing better than LH ever ran it. just somthing to think about.

If its staying NA I had garys tuned pretty damn well in about 30 minutes.

The offer is out there, it'll be more reliable (imo) than trying to transplant LH.

Thing is, I bet with Megasquirt it'll be a hell of a lot more reliable than with LH. The LH won't be tuned to that setup well at all and could cause more trouble than you might think.

Setting up 2.4 on that car would require more work as well since 2.4 uses the pickup on the bellhousing, and finding a flywheel that will work might be a PITA. You won't even have to mess with any of that to get MS to work.

Either way, if you guys need help let me know. I'd like to come up and help.

Dont worry!!! its not something we are totally disregarding... its been talked about and we DO want to. It could still happen...what I listed were the "tentative initial plans". It all just depends on a few factors... time and NASA Enduro Classing rules. Everything we do... gives us points.... and the more points we have, the higher in classes we have to go. Still want to stay competative... Also, if we put out so much power, we need the drivetrain to live 25 hours... also, swapping drivetrains would also add up in more points... so we're probably happy at about 200hp.

Is it dark in there? There are plenty of lh2.4 flywheels between here and davis, you would just have to get up and look for them. Worst some to worse, Lee just phones Volvo Sob in sacramento and gets one.

The 60-2 setup allows for alot more ignition resolution. That by itself would be a very nice advantaged over 4-4 on the lh2.2 setup. It's alot better to know you are at 70* btdc because you counted to that window, than to think you are at 70* because you have been between window 1-2 long enough.

This all sounds very interesting! What are your plans for induction/intake?

Ya, we're putting a notch in the bell housing and we're adapting the flywheel to work.

There's an open invitation for people to help or just check it out... Just contact John Pagel at john[at]evilgeniusracing dot com
