View Full Version : best non-custom wheels for 700/900s?

I think I may want to pick up a set of wheels for more spirited driving purpose, but as you know, I'm an euroricer, 8.5" with 8mm offset up front isn't exactly "trouble free" fitment, nor is 10" at the back.
I was thinking of like 17x8 or 18x8 wheels that are direct fit, like et10, with 225 RT615 or R compound, but then I realize there's nothing that's available as far as my riced out memory recalls?
like Polaris reps seem to bend very easy and isn't exactly light, Pegs require spacers that I'm lazy to deal with, spending top $$$ on custom rims that may very well be trahsed in a yr or two seems bit unlogical.
or am I forgetting what's out there?
hot chick and a hot car for ppl who clicked.

was thinking about it, but they are only 17x7,and I really want to run 225 tires, the Hanhook RS2 225 has almost 8.2" of contact width, like 17x7.5 would be great, 17x8 would be lovely.

Remember the really slick black Bertone coupe that was the home page car? That car had HRE wheels, IIRC. Check them out. http://www.hrewheels.com/home/

yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. problem being HRE wants at least 4500 for a set of 17"s, I was looking more like no more than $1k range.
and if anything, Kodiak would be a better personal choice.

I still like Moda R6... Some may disagree. Maybe it's the FWD in me :-P

remember chigga, a 7.5 inch wheel is really 8.5 lip to lip. A tire that sits 8.2 inches wide will sit just about perfect. 225mm works out to 9.1 inches, appx. Perfect for an 8.
You could run 215s and still get some decent grip, or why nut just spend roughly 500 total for a set of track 15 inch steelies (they are light, thin spun barrel). My 15/10s were 413 AFTER shipping... probably more for shipping to Canada, but subtract about 20 total for going to 8s vs 10s.
Hell, if they are track only wheels, go with diamond racing wheels www.diamondracingwheels.com ... buy 2 spares or a whole extra set for around 1000.

65 for black 15/8s (+10), 74 for black 15/10s (+10), maybe run a staggered setup?
Add that 10 per wheel for a Volvo PCD, 108x5, 65mm centerbore (still dont know why they dont offer the 5x108 standard, so common on ALL Volvos). Shipping is dirt cheap.
I'll just push em cuz they are replaceable, if your driving hard, and the wheels gonna get effed up, get something that you don't care about, something almost as cheap as tires.

I have real polaris on my car and run 225's with no problem on them.

You know that Polaris would look killah on your car!
Look here and imagine it with white bumpers and the SE-kit!

Oh! There are also two versions of real Polaris, the really early castings are much thinner and therefore more prone to bend!
Yea, that's true, I talked to the twin of the guy designing them about Polaris, and he told me that!
Otherwise, go for the Superstar Wheels on the pic you showed. They really are the _$hit!_ ou won't regret it if you'll get them!
Only downside they are darn expensive!

and yes, Polaris have gone thru my mind many times, and also the steelies, I think I will make the final decision around winter time. Although I've seen BSR steelies before and they are outright sexy for steelies, and would like 'em in chrome versions :-D

How about this brand? I bought their wheels and they were very light and strong for the money. The American distributor is in Ontario, too. http://www.rimstock.co.uk/rimstockusa/homepage.php
http://www.teamdynamicsracing.com/competition_wheels.htm
I bought the Pro Race 1 model in 15x7 and they were only $125 each with my choice of available colors. I'm sure something larger would still be within your mentioned budget.
They look really good on superboosteds wagon in showroom.
PS The site seems to only work well in Internet Explorer.

You guys relieaze if you run steels like that you will get alot of vibrations. I have yet to see a set that are hub/lug centric. All the ones I have seen are lug centric.

When you run spacer/adapters. Do automatically go lugcentric?

For SuperDTM to work they have to be staggered widths. Otherwise they look odd.

For a track wheel you shouldn't focus on how it looks. Also, you can use offset (backspacing) to tweak the handling, bringing the wheels in or out, changes the way the suspension reacts. Panned out you'd need some stiffer springs, pulled in you could run a lower rate (to a point).
8 wheels for under 1000? Wheels cheaper than tires... cmon, for a track wheel you can't beat it. 4 for under 400, probably less than 500 after shipping to canuckistan.
