I want white gauge faces for my 740. This guy named Dave Barton: http://personal.linkline.com/dbarton/ produces some nice ones for the 240's.

Although he states the following regarding why he does not produce them for the 740 or later models:
Q: Can you make white faces for 740's and later models?
A: Maybe someone can, however these 240 faces are printed on photo paper and mounted on your original metal faceplates. They work very well on 240's since 240 gauges are "forward lighted," or lit from the front of the gauge by reflectors. The faceplates on the 740 gauges (and later models), are made from a translucent plastic and lit from behind the gauge. Putting paper faces on your 740 would not allow very good lighting. I have experimented with making translucent back-lit 740 instrument clusters and the results never turned out near as nice as I would want. Since I will not sell something unless it looks and functions well, I have abandoned this type of project.

I might be an idiot for asking, although is there anyway to convert the 740 gauge lighting to the style used by the 240's. Is this a totally stupid question? Can it be done? I'm definately not the guy to figure this out, although I would love to benifit from your ideas. :-P

I know I should put my effort from into preformance mods and such. But, **** my car is fast enough for me. I want the interior to look like the shiznits:cool:

Most likely the people that are doing something with the 740 series like that are the Swedes. I'd suggest searching around the photos and posts for custom lights. Some of the places that sell custom lights may also provide gauge faces for 700 series.

I love the big white clock

Flaverrrr Flavvv!!!

How hard is it to change out the cluster to new guages? I've seen one guy on with a 240 that had a computer screen for the guages.

Are their lighting issues using that white faced gauge on a 740? If so, did you ever get that worked out. If ya did, would you mind sharing for the class. ;-)

I'm still wondering if putting white gauge faces on the 740 will actually work. I know you can put one on, although can you see the gauges when its dark? How does the light shine through the paper? I would love to have these white faces, although I need to be able to see the gauges when its dark. One of you posted a picture of the white gauges. How about posting a picture of how it looks when it is dark.

i should take a pic sometime at night...bascially right now you can faintyl see the inner workings of the clock/speedo/tach...but i put blue bulbs in, and it lights up light blue...to cure this i would recommend using like a flower plastic wrap type of deal to avoid seeing the "inners" of the gauges...however they do light up fine, no issues regarding seeing anything...those will be up for sale in spring as i am doing something new

i'll let em go really cheap

i originally bought them from foggyjames...no idea where he got them from
