Hey I'm a new guy so my questions may seem a little stupid to some
I've got a 93 945t with a mitsubishi TD04 turbo all stock with stage 0 done, Now I'd like to start playing around with boost and intake mods. Not looking for 300hp, Just want a little extra push.
#1 how effective is it to just adjust the wastegate to try and get 2-3 more psi Max boost and what do I need to know before I make an adjustment?
#2 My airbox like most Ive seen has broken latches, If I replace it with a aftermarket cone type filter mounted to the AMM on custom bracket will I get enough cool air and will it have any negative effects as far as the stock ECU or A/F ratio settings
More ??? to come but I'll just start with this.

dont bother with intake unless you're going to make/buy a heat shield, i bought mine from a board member(taskmule).

Buy a decent boost controller, one you can actually trust, its worth it.
Before you up the boost you will need a boost gauge. With stock IC most you want on the teeny turbo is ~13 psi, I'm running 11.

Thanks matt, I'm sure I can make a heat shield, Thanks for the photo that looks really nice. did you do any thing to direct cold air into that area or does the factory duct inside the fender take care of it? Also can you make any recomendations on a boost controller i.e. brand? source? or anything else important. Thanks Again.

For the boost controller, go ebay, it's like $10.00-$15.00, they all work good.

I also am at this stage with my 745. Can anyone address the value of tweaking
the wastegate nut?

Thanks again for posting the photo, I copied the design and made a heat sheild. The filter I got is a little bigger so I put in a 90 degree elbow and the small end is toward the front, other than that it's very similar to yours. I do have one question, Whenever I release the throttle I hear a big whoosh of air - I'm thinking it's from the blow-off valve but i'd like some confirmation on that. Does yours do a similar thing?

it can hurt turbo response and will really only get you 2-3psi more. leave it be and get an MBC, you'll get better spool times too.

jon, the noise you hear is the compressor bypass valve bypassing the compressor wheel when you let off the gas. it does this to protect the compressor wheel from backspinning itself to death. anyway, the stock airbox is tuned to act like a muffler (hence why you never heard it before) and quiet down CBV noises because Volvo didn't want granny complaining that her car was too loud. removing the airbox removes the muffling capabilities, and you hear the whooshing. no problems, but you will get noticed a bit more than before :badboy:
for cool air into the air intake area, try some dryer ducting, routed through the sheetmetal plate directly in front of the washer bottle. you can cut a hole there, put some sliced open vacuum hose around the hole, and mount some dryer ducting hose to pull air from outside the engine compartment. at speed, it should be nice and cool, and the best part is, it stays hidden :)
how's the car doing with the intake? a lil faster?

Yeah it may be a little faster, It feels like it spools a little easier but like I said in the original post it's just one of a few mods I want to do. my boost controller is on the way as well as a decent boost gauge, I'd like to get it to @ 10-11 psi, see where I'm at and then go from there . And thanks for the confirmation on the bypass air, I'd rather be safe than sorry, after all this is my daily driver.
