Some of the Bruce's and myself went to Winton raceway (a 2-3 hour drive north of Melbourne) for a "fun day". For $25 you get to go out onto the track in your road car (with all loose bits taken out), an approved helmet and on alternating goes, a passenger.

Here are some pics from the trip to Winton, in the car, waiting to get onto the track and the general track area itself.

Driving up to Benalla on the Hume Highway. The smokey haze on the horizon is due to our massive bushfires. Winton/Benalla is approx. 80km from the fires.

That silver car was beautiful, I was on it's arse in the corners but it would slowly pull away on the straights.

You need to be more careful, you were on the wrong side of the road in some of those pictures.

I'll be able to post up some track shots from the hill tonight but I'd love to get an in-car camera set up!

No reason for them to be banned. Its a sanctioned/official event and in no way promotes irresponsible driving.

Looks good, sure looks like it was hot on the day.

I'm just curious how you guys go with insurance for track days like that, and any other motorsport on a track? I've heard that Shannons will cover you, provided you give them a call in advance and let them know what event/track you're going to. Not sure if they charge extra fees for this.

From what I remember (I'm at work unforunately), Shannons will cover CAMS sanctioned events but I think there are some restrictions on what type of events though.

I'll have a squizz if I can find the paperwork with the current house mess/inlaws etc...

I mentioned the banning because I've heard of tracks banning in-car-cameras, not because it might violate Tbs no street racing threads rule.

From memory the quote I got from shannons did cover third party property and injury to $20m on the track at no extra cost.

Ah right. misunderstanding, completely my fault. I thought you were suggesting that pics of this sort of event may be banned from this board.

Cameras are ok, provided that they are not handheld and that the bracketry does not cause risk to the occupants, etc.
ie. duct + camera = no track time for you! :)

Not really sure about Shannons in all honesty, each time I've attempted to get a quote from them I've struggled to find any competent people to deal with and as a result I've not followed up.

I do know that they have a 'limited extreme usage' policy suitable for club/performance vehicles. Not sure if this is what you're referring to or not.
With most (non shannons) policies your vehicle is actually no longer insure as soon as it rolls into a motorsport facility. Something to keep in mind if you're planning on attending a track event.
